Densities of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) fry in relation to physical habitat, spawning redd distribution and parr abundance in a small subarctic…
2014
Two small-scale surveys were conducted in a small river to examine the effects of physical habitat characteristics, spatial spawning redd distribution and abundance of older juveniles on the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) fry (age 0+) distribution 1) shortly after the emergence and 2) after the assumed main dispersal period of fry. The effect of physical habitat variables (water depth, water velocity and substratum size), spatial spawning redd distribution and densities of older juveniles were examined using multiple linear regressions. Identical models were fitted with generalized habitat suitability indices to test their applicability to predict the variation in fry densities. Clear pat…
Bayesian dynamic modeling of time series of dengue disease case counts
2017
The aim of this study is to model the association between weekly time series of dengue case counts and meteorological variables, in a high-incidence city of Colombia, applying Bayesian hierarchical dynamic generalized linear models over the period January 2008 to August 2015. Additionally, we evaluate the model’s short-term performance for predicting dengue cases. The methodology shows dynamic Poisson log link models including constant or time-varying coefficients for the meteorological variables. Calendar effects were modeled using constant or first- or second-order random walk time-varying coefficients. The meteorological variables were modeled using constant coefficients and first-order …

Present State of Research Regarding University Choice and Attractiveness of the Study Area
2013
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to present the present state, trends and focus of research regarding the factors that influence the decision making process in choosing a university in which a potential student will study. The study has been accomplished using the methodology of bibliographic study and qualitative research, using various secondary sources. The study focuses on the analysis of the present state of research concentrated on Germany's area and constitutes the basis of a comparative management research Romania-Germany. From various German studies it is shown that for most of the students the most important factor in choosing their university is represented by the study spec…
Mate preferences in Argentinean transgender people
2018
Transgender people provide a unique opportunity to examine the effect of biological sex versus gender identity on mating preferences. This study aimed at identifying the mate characteristics that are most and least valued by transgender people and at examining to what extent their biological sex or their gender identity determined their mate preferences. A convenience sample of 134 male‐to‐female (MTF) and 94 female‐to‐male (FTM) individuals from Argentina rated Buss's list of 18 mate attributes. Compared to FTM, MTF individuals placed significantly more emphasis on attractiveness and socioeconomic status, whereas FTM, more than MTF individuals, valued partners with a dependable character. …
Fundamental frequency of the female's voice: A cross-country empirical study on its influence on social and sexual selection
2020
Recent studies demonstrate that voice (in particular, its fundamental frequency -Fo-) may influence on social and sexual selection. Here, we tested how the Fo of female's voice is related to different aspects of social and sexual selection through a novel experimental approach. First, we recorded and measured the Fo of 22 women reading a neutral text in Spanish language. Six of these voices were selected and classified into three categories: voices with a low Fo (225 Hz). Then, these voices were rated by two independent samples including both men and women: one comprised of native Spanish-speakers (n = 683) and the other comprised of native Italian non-Spanish-speakers (n = 484). Contrarily…
