Self-regulation and Beyond: Affect Regulation and the Infant–Caregiver Dyad
2016
In the available psychological literature, affect regulation is fundamentally considered in terms of self-regulation, and according to this standard picture, the contribution of other people in our affect regulation has been viewed in terms of socially assisted selfregulation. The present article challenges this standard picture. By focusing on affect regulation as it unfolds in early infancy, it will be argued that instead of being something original and fundamental, self-regulation developmentally emerges from the basis of a further type of affect regulation. While infants’ capacities in recognizing, understanding, and modifying their own affective states are initially immature and undeve…
Study of social self-concept invariance in physical activity individual and collective practitioners
2019
Determinants of social skills of students from 7 to 12 years
2015
International audience; Differences of achievement in school, traditionally studied by researchers in Education, can be analyzed in terms of skills and especially social skills. This scientific field is under construction but social skills are becoming a compulsory notion for actors of the school system and for Educational Sciences.Through a multidisciplinary approach, this article proposes to study the determinants of social skills using social and educational indicators widely borrowed into the explanation of the differences of achievement models, with associated self-image, neuroticism and relationship with school measures. Indeed, these three dimensions are involved in the socialization…
Using the Storytelling Method to Hear Children’s Perspectives and Promote Their Social-Emotional Competence
2019
This study investigated the use of a playful, narrative, vignette-based method, called Story Magician’s Play Time (SMPT), in supporting children’s social-emotional reasoning and in helping children practice their social skills. We set out to examine (a) in what ways children use SMPT sessions to explore social interaction situations and to practice social skills, and (b) what story content and narrative play behavior during the SMPT sessions reveal about the social-emotional competence of children, in terms of acquisition and performance skills. The data were collected during SMPT storytelling sessions where 5- to 6-year-old children narrated stories of familiar but challenging daily situa…
Domini collettivi, forme di autogoverno per la gestione degli ecosistemi e lo sviluppo locale
2020
One of the most ancient forms of self-government of environmental systems is that relating to the management of civic uses and collective lands, in which a specific local community controls and manages sustainable resources (fields, pastures, woods, etc.) sustainably and efficiently. The paper aims to briefly retrace the salient stages of the history of collective domains, and to explore their value as “goods that are produced by long co-evolutionary processes between human settlement and environment” (Magnaghi 2015, 139) highlighting the appearance of complex socio-ecological systems (SES). Finally, using the theory developed by Elinor Ostrom to analyze the sustainability of SES (Ostrom 20…
Co-Occurrence of Sociocultural Elements and Self-Direction in Learning Situations: A Police Organization Case Study
2022
Adult’s self-direction and self-directed learning (SDL) have become topics in the discussion of work-related adult learning and an autonomous approach, emphasizing responsibility and independence, has received increasing attention in studies of learning. In the context of SDL, in contrast, the importance of the learning environment and community has received less empirical attention. The aim of this article is to increase the understanding of the co-occurrence of sociocultural elements and self-direction in learning situations at work. From a practical viewpoint, it is important to understand both, the sociocultural and self-directed nature of different learning situations at daily work, s…

Morphometric analysis of two calanchi areas in Sicily (Italy) by exploiting high resolution Digital Elevation Models
2013
In the Mediterranean areas, specifically in Sicily (Italy), irregular rainfalls, strong seasonal changes, scarce vegetation cover and, frequently, outcropping of clayey deposits favor water erosion phenomena. Badland landscapes are the result of severe erosion processes, characterized by steep slopes, sparse vegetation, high drainage density, rapid erosion rates and a shallow or non existing regolith profile. In this investigation we focused on the calanchi badland type, consisting of heavily dissected terrain with steep, unvegetated slopes and channels that rapidly incise and extend headwards. This research was carried out in two calanchi sites located in Sicily. The geometry of 25 badland…
Self-regulated learning, self-efficacy beliefs and performance during the late childhood
2010
This article analyzes relations between self-regulated learning, self-efficacy beliefs, and performance in tasks of solving arithmetic problems. The research includes 268 six-year-old students enrolled in the first year of primary school in Spain. The results from binary logistic regression models indicate that self-regulated learning and its interaction with self-efficacy beliefs predict performance. Finally, the cluster analysis shows four profiles of students: i) positive adjusted; ii) negative unadjusted I; iii) negative unadjusted II y; iv) negative adjusted.. Este artículo analiza relaciones entre el aprendizaje autorregulado, las creencias de autoeficacia y el desempeño en tareas de …
