Measurement of theB+→ωl+νandB+→ηl+νbranching fractions

2009

We present a study of the charmless semileptonic B-meson decays B{sup +}{yields}{omega}l{sup +}{nu} and B{sup +}{yields}{eta}l{sup +}{nu}. The analysis is based on 3.83x10{sup 8} BB pairs recorded at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The {omega} mesons are reconstructed in the channel {omega}{yields}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0} and the {eta} mesons in the channels {eta}{yields}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0} and {eta}{yields}{gamma}{gamma}. We measure the branching fractions B(B{sup +}{yields}{omega}l{sup +}{nu})=(1.14{+-}0.16{sub stat}{+-}0.08{sub syst})x10{sup -4} and B(B{sup +}{yields}{eta}l{sup +}{nu})=(0.31{+-}0.06{sub stat}{+-}0.08{sub syst})x10{sup -4}.

Measurement of K-e3(0) form factors

2004

The semi-leptonic decay of the neutral K meson $K^{0}_{L} \to \pi^{\pm}e^{\mp}\nu (K_{e3})$, was used to study the strangeness-changing weak interaction of hadrons. A sample of 5.6 million reconstructed events recorded by the NA48 experiment was used to measure the Dalitz plot density. Admitting all possible Lorentz-covariant couplings, the form factors for vector $(f_{+}(q^{2}))$, scalar $(f_{S})$ and tensor $(f_{T})$ interactions were measured. The linear slope of the vector form factor $\lambda_{+} = 0.0284 \pm 0.0007 \pm 0.0013$ and values for the ratios $|f_{S}/f_{+}(0)|=0.015^{+0.007}_{-0.010} \pm 0.012$ and $|f_{T}/f_{+}(0)|=0.05^{+0.03}_{-0.04} \pm 0.03$ were obtained. The values fo…

First measurement of the ratio of branching fractionsB(Λb0→Λc+μ−ν¯μ)/B(Λb0→Λc+π−)

2009

This article presents the first measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c) pi(-)). Measurements in two control samples using the same technique B((B) over bar (0) -> D+ mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu))/B((B) over bar (0) -> D+ pi(-)) and B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(2010)(+) mu(-) (nu) over bar (mu))/B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(2010)(+) pi(-)) are also reported. The analysis uses data from an integrated luminosity of approximately 172 pb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1: 96 TeV, collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The relative branching fractions are measured to be B(Lambda(…

Search for the rare decayB→Kνν¯

2010

We present a search for the rare decays B+→K+νν and B0→K0νν using 459×106 BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Flavor-changing neutral-current decays such as these are forbidden at tree level but can occur through one-loop diagrams in the standard model (SM), with possible contributions from new physics at the same order. The presence of two neutrinos in the final state makes identification of signal events challenging, so reconstruction in the semileptonic decay channels B→D(*)lν of the B meson recoiling from the signal B is used to suppress backgrounds. We set an upper limit at the 90% confidence level (CL) of 1.3×10-5 on the total branch…

0νββand2νββnuclear matrix elements in the interacting boson model with isospin restoration

2015

We introduce a method for isospin restoration in the calculation of nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) for $0\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\beta}$ and $2\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay within the framework of the microscopic interacting boson model (IBM-2). With this method, we calculate the NMEs for all processes of interest in $0\ensuremath{\nu}{\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and $2\ensuremath{\nu}{\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and in $0\ensuremath{\nu}{\ensuremath{\beta}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\beta}}^{+}$, $0\ensuremath{\nu}\mathrm{EC}{\ensuremath{\beta}}^{+}$, $R0\…

Searching for $B_c$ mesons in the ATLAS experiment at LHC

1995

We discuss the feasibility of the observation of the signal from $B_c$ mesons in the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. In particular, we address the decay mode $B_c{\rightarrow}J/\psi \pi$ followed by the leptonic decay $J/\psi{\rightarrow}\mu^+\mu^-$, which should permit an accurate measurement of the $B_c$ mass. We performed a Monte Carlo study of the signal and background concluding that a precision of $\approx$ 1 MeV for the $B_c$ mass could be achieved after one year of running at $\lq\lq$low" luminosity. The semileptonic decay $B_c{\rightarrow}J/\psi\ {\mu}^+{\nu}_{\mu}$ is also considered for a possible extraction of ${\mid}V_{cb}{\mid}$.

Study of theτ−→3h−2h+ντdecay

2005

The branching fraction of the tau- --> 3h- 2h+ nu decay (h= pi, kaon) is measured with the BaBar detector to be (8.56 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.42)E-04 where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The observed structure of this decay is significantly different from the phase space prediction, with the rho resonance playing a strong role. The decay tau- --> f1 pi nu with the f1 meson decaying to four charged pions, is observed and the branching fraction is measured to be (3.9 +/- 0.7 +/- 0.5)E-04.

B→ρsemileptonic decays and|Vub|

2014

We reevaluate the $B\to\rho\,l^+\nu_l$ decay width as a full $B\to\pi\pi\,l^+\nu_l$ four-particle decay, in which the two final pions are produced via an intermediate $\rho$ meson. The decay width can be written as a convolution of the $B\to\rho\,l^+\nu_l$ decay width, for an off-shell $\rho$, with the $\rho\to\pi\pi$ line shape. This allows to fully incorporate the effects of the finite $\rho$ meson width. As shown, consideration of the $\rho$ meson width effects increase the $|V_{ub}|$ value by some 8%, rendering it in better agreement with the determination based in the $B\to\pi$ decay. We take the $q^2$ dependence of the $B\to \rho$ semileptonic form factors from a dispersive Omn\`es re…

Enhanced lepton flavor violation with massless neutrinos: a study of muon and tau decays

1992

Lepton flavor violating rates can be experimentally measurable even if the observed neutrinos are strictly massless. We make a study of the attainable rates for anomalous leptonic muon and tau number violating decays such as μ→eγ, μ→3e, τ→μγ, τ→eγ, τ→μμ+ μ−, τ→ ee+e−, τ→eμ+μ−, etc. as well as semileptonic lepton flavor violating tau decays such as τ→μπ0, τ→eπ0, τ→eη, etc. All muonic violating decays can be as large as the present limits from LAMPF, TRIUMF and PSI. The corresponding tau violating processes can all be at the limit of sensitivity of the upcoming τ factories.
