Effect of temperature on anaerobic treatment of black water in UASB-septic tank systems

The effect of northern European seasonal temperature changes and low temperature on the performance of upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB)-septic tanks treating black water was studied. Three UASB-septic tanks were monitored with different operational parameters and at different temperatures. The results indicated the feasibility of the UASB-septic tank for (pre)treatment of black water at low temperatures with respect to removal of suspended solids and dissolved organic material. Inoculum sludge had little effect on COD(ss) removal, though in the start-up phase some poorly adapted inoculum disintegrated and washed out, thus requiring consideration when designing the process. Poly-diallyldimethylammonium (PDADMAC) chloride is a flocculant agent extensively used in water clarification treatments. Commercial polyelectrolyte formulations often contain residual monomer (DADMAC), reaction by-products and other reactants as contaminants that could potentially affect human health. In the present study, we optimized an analytical method based on reversed-phase ion-pair chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry for quantifying ultra-trace levels of DADMAC, without preliminary treatments, in drinking water distributed by the Palermo aqueduct. Kinetics of phase separation in thin films: Lattice versus continuum models for solid binary mixtures

A description of phase separation kinetics for solid binary (A,B) mixtures in thin film geometry based on the Kawasaki spin-exchange kinetic Ising model is presented in a discrete lattice molecular field formulation. It is shown that the model describes the interplay of wetting layer formation and lateral phase separation, which leads to a characteristic domain size $\ell(t)$ in the directions parallel to the confining walls that grows according to the Lifshitz-Slyozov $t^{1/3}$ law with time $t$ after the quench. Tässä artikkelissa pyrin selvittämään tapoja, joilla ihmiset kokevat Valtaistuinpelin maailman, hahmot ja tapahtumat, ja sitä, miten he niitä tulkitsevat ja suhteuttavat omaan elämänkokemukseensa. Esports phenomena have grown rapidly in recent years, and so has research on the topic. Some of the research has also addressed esports fandom (see e.g. Taylor 2012). Nevertheless, studies comparing and contrasting how players and fans engage with the game and the esports based on that game are scarce. This study compares and contrasts how players and fans engage with playable game characters and esports players. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan vienankarjalan ymmärtämistä suomen kielen pohjalta. Vienankarjala on yksi karjalan kielen murteista, jonka varsinainen puhuma-alue on Venäjän Karjalan tasavallan pohjoisosa. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on selvittää, kuinka hyvin suomea äidinkielenään puhuvat suomalaiset, jotka eivät ole opiskelleet karjalan kieltä, ymmärtävät sitä. Tilannetta, jolloin keskusteluun osallistuvat henkilöt käyttävät omaa äidinkieltään ja pystyvät ymmärtämään toisiaan, nimitetään reseptiiviseksi monikielisyydeksi. W niniejszym artykule w syntetyczny sposób ukazana została wschodnia wizja pobożnościowa związana z kultem św. Józefa. Prezentacja przykładów literatury apokryficznej oraz tekstów patrystycznych wraz z liturgicznymi elementami dotyczącymi osoby opiekuna Świętej Rodziny pozwoliły zarysować orientalną józefologię. Na tle tradycji łacińskiej jawi się ona jako uboga. Nie zmienia to jednak faktu, że pewne elementy wschodnie możemy zaobserwować w kulcie św. Józefa w Kościele zachodnim. Wystarczy tu wspomnieć chociażby zakorzeniony w świadomości i kulturze obraz św. Józefa jako starca, a także elementy pobożnościowe takie jak Akatyst ku czci św.
