Optimized Class-Separability in Hyperspectral Images

2016

International audience; Image visualization techniques are mostly based on three bands as RGB color composite channels for human eye to characterize the scene. This, however, is not effective in case of hyper-spectral images (HSI) because they contain dozens of informative spectral bands. To eliminate redundancy of spectral information among these bands, dimensionality reduction (DR) is applied while at the same trying to retain maximum information. In this paper, we propose a new method of information-preserved hyper-spectral satellite image visualization that is based on fusion of unsupervised band selection techniques and color matching function (CMF) stretching. The results show consist…

Irrelevant Features, Class Separability, and Complexity of Classification Problems

2011

In this paper, analysis of class separability measures is performed in attempt to relate their descriptive abilities to geometrical properties of classification problems in presence of irrelevant features. The study is performed on synthetic and benchmark data with known irrelevant features and other characteristics of interest, such as class boundaries, shapes, margins between classes, and density. The results have shown that some measures are individually informative, while others are less reliable and only can provide complimentary information. Classification problem complexity measurements on selected data sets are made to gain additional insights on the obtained results.

Translational dynamics effects on the non-local correlations between two atoms

2005

A pair of atoms interacting successively with the field of the same cavity and exchanging a single photon, leave the cavity in an entangled state of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) type (see, for example, [S.J.D. Phoenix, and S.M. Barnett, J. Mod. Opt. \textbf{40} (1993) 979]). By implementing the model with the translational degrees of freedom, we show in this letter that the entanglement with the translational atomic variables can lead, under appropriate conditions, towards the separability of the internal variables of the two atoms. This implies that the translational dynamics can lead, in some cases, to difficulties in observing the Bell's inequality violation for massive particles.

Finite linear spaces in which any n-gon is euclidean

1986

Abstract An n-gon of a linear space is a set S of n points no three of which are collinear. By a diagonal point of S we mean a point p off S with the property that at least two lines through p intersect S in two points. The number of diagonal points is called the type of S. For example, a 4-gon has at most three diagonal points. We call an n-gon euclidean if (roughly speaking) it contains the maximal possible number of 4-gons of type 3. In this paper, we characterize all finite linear spaces in which, for a fixed number n ⩾ 5, any n-gon is euclidean. It turns out that these structures are essentially projective spaces or punctured projective spaces.

Coexistence of unlimited bipartite and genuine multipartite entanglement: Promiscuous quantum correlations arising from discrete to continuous-variab…

2006

Quantum mechanics imposes 'monogamy' constraints on the sharing of entanglement. We show that, despite these limitations, entanglement can be fully 'promiscuous', i.e. simultaneously present in unlimited two-body and many-body forms in states living in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. Monogamy just bounds the divergence rate of the various entanglement contributions. This is demonstrated in simple families of N-mode (N >= 4) Gaussian states of light fields or atomic ensembles, which therefore enable infinitely more freedom in the distribution of information, as opposed to systems of individual qubits. Such a finding is of importance for the quantification, understanding and potenti…

Entanglement in continuous-variable systems: recent advances and current perspectives

2007

We review the theory of continuous-variable entanglement with special emphasis on foundational aspects, conceptual structures, and mathematical methods. Much attention is devoted to the discussion of separability criteria and entanglement properties of Gaussian states, for their great practical relevance in applications to quantum optics and quantum information, as well as for the very clean framework that they allow for the study of the structure of nonlocal correlations. We give a self-contained introduction to phase-space and symplectic methods in the study of Gaussian states of infinite-dimensional bosonic systems. We review the most important results on the separability and distillabil…

The non dissipative damping of the Rabi oscillations as a "which-path" information

2005

Rabi oscillations may be viewed as an interference phenomenon due to a coherent superposition of different quantum paths, like in the Young's two-slit experiment. The inclusion of the atomic external variables causes a non dissipative damping of the Rabi oscillations. More generally, the atomic translational dynamics induces damping in the correlation functions which describe non classical behaviors of the field and internal atomic variables, leading to the separability of these two subsystems. We discuss on the possibility of interpreting this intrinsic decoherence as a "which-way" information effect and we apply to this case a quantitative analysis of the complementarity relation as intro…

Steady-state entanglement activation in optomechanical cavities

2014

Quantum discord, and a number of related indicators, are currently raising a relentless interest as a novel paradigm of non-classical correlations beyond entanglement. Beside merely fundamental aspects, various works have shown that discord is a valuable -- so far largely unexplored -- resource in quantum information processing. Along this line, quite a striking scheme is {entanglement activation}. An initial amount of discord between two disentangled parties of a multipartite system affects the dynamics so as to establish entanglement across a bipartition, which would not arise otherwise. To date, such a process was proven to be achievable only dynamically, i.e., with no guarantee of a sta…

On density and π-weight of Lp(βN,R, μ)

2012

In Integration Theory, it is important to establish the separability or not of Lebesgue spaces of the type Lp, with 1 ≤ p < +∞. In general, the usual proof of this type of results for certain Lebesgue spaces, is conducted through methods of Real Analysis. In this work, we use some concepts and methods of pure General Topology in proving the non-separability of a particular Lebesgue space. Further, we provide some estimates for density and π-weight of such a space.

Multipartite entanglement in three-mode Gaussian states of continuous variable systems: Quantification, sharing structure and decoherence

2005

We present a complete analysis of multipartite entanglement of three-mode Gaussian states of continuous variable systems. We derive standard forms which characterize the covariance matrix of pure and mixed three-mode Gaussian states up to local unitary operations, showing that the local entropies of pure Gaussian states are bound to fulfill a relationship which is stricter than the general Araki-Lieb inequality. Quantum correlations will be quantified by a proper convex roof extension of the squared logarithmic negativity (the contangle), satisfying a monogamy relation for multimode Gaussian states, whose proof will be reviewed and elucidated. The residual contangle, emerging from the monog…
