Health-related quality of life and physical activity in persons at high risk for type 2 diabetes

2008

The aim of this study was to compare the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of persons at risk for type 2 diabetes to that of the Finnish general population. In addition, the associations between physical activity and HRQOL at-risk persons were studied. One hundred thirty-two at-risk persons were recruited from health care centres in Central Finland. Participants filled out questionnaires including demographic characteristics, HRQOL (SF-36), frequency of vigorous physical activity (or =2 times a week, once a week, less than once a week) and comorbidities.HRQOL of at-risk persons differed significantly from that of the Finnish population in four of the eight dimensions of SF-36. Compared …

Quality of Life in Dementia: Impact of Cognition and Insight on Applicability of the SF-36

2011

Comparability of measures of quality of life in dementia and in other diagnostic groups, such as mild cognitive impairment, normal aging, or other diseases, is highly desirable. However, the impact of cognitive deficits and impaired insight on applicability and validity of generic instruments is sparsely studied.Sixty patients with dementia [38 women; age: mean (SD) = 78.7 (6.4) years; Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE): mean (SD) = 20.2 (6.0)] recruited as part of the start-modem study, a multicenter care research study in Germany, completed the generic instrument SF-36 and the specific instrument Quality of Life-Alzheimer's Disease (QOL-AD).QOL-AD self-rating scores [mean (SD) = 32.8 (5…

Perception of improved state of health and subjective quality of life in Crohn's disease patients treated with Infliximab.

2009

International audience; UNLABELLED: BACKGROUND AND AIMS AND METHOD: Although Infliximab is a very potent therapy of refractory Crohn's disease, its administration requires iterative infusions in hospital and there are concerns regarding its long-term safety. The aim of this study was to assess in a sample of 51 patients suffering from CD the impact of type of treatment (intravenous Infliximab versus conventional therapy without Infliximab) on the evaluation of the state of health (CGI) and the quality of life (MOS-SF36). Secondary variables were also assessed: the impact of depression (MADRS), the impact of activity of the disease (Harvey-Bradshaw Index). RESULTS: Overall, the assessments m…

Krankheitsbewältigung bei Patienten nach Lebertransplantation unter Berücksichtigung der Zugehörigkeit zu einer Selbsthilfegruppe

2002

Background: Within the past 15 years, liver transplantation has proven itself to be the treatment of choice among patients with terminal liver disease. The one-year survival rate is about 80%; after 8 years 61 % of the patients are still alive. The present study investigates the influence of active or depressive coping on the physical and mental quality of life in two different groups of patients after liver transplantation. Methods: Members (n = 65) and non-members (n = 2,0) of a German self-help group were asked to fill out a postal survey. Patients were included if their liver transplantation was conducted 6 to 36 months ago. The health-related quality of life was surveyed using the SF-3…

Quality of Life in COVID-Related ARDS Patients One Year after Intensive Care Discharge (Odissea Study): A Multicenter Observational Study

2023

Background: Investigating the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) after intensive care unit (ICU) discharge is necessary to identify possible modifiable risk factors. The primary aim of this study was to investigate the HRQoL in COVID-19 critically ill patients one year after ICU discharge. Methods: In this multicenter prospective observational study, COVID-19 patients admitted to nine ICUs from 1 March 2020 to 28 February 2021 in Italy were enrolled. One year after ICU discharge, patients were required to fill in short-form health survey 36 (SF-36) and impact of event-revised (IES-R) questionnaire. A multivariate linear or logistic regression analysis to search for factors associated wi…

Psychometric Field Study of Hereditary Angioedema Quality of Life Questionnaire for Adults:HAE-QoL

2016

Background: Hereditary angioedema due to C1 inhibitor deficiency (C1-INH-HAE) may affect health-related quality of life (HRQoL). A specific HRQoL questionnaire for adult patients with C1-INH-HAE, the HAE-QoL, has recently been developed in Spain. Objective: The objective of this study was to perform a cross-cultural validation and psychometric study of the HAE-QoL in an international setting. Methods: Cross-cultural adaptation of the Spanish HAE-QoL draft version and an international rating phase with experts were performed. The resultant version of the HAE-QoL, a clinical questionnaire, and Short Form 36-item Health Survey Version 2.0 (SF-36v2) were pilot tested internationally. Item reduc…

Health-Related Quality of Life and Somatization in Patients With Long-Term Low Back Pain

2001

Study Design. For this study, a prospective cohort of 109 patients was recruited consecutively at an orthopedic inpatient unit of a university hospital. Three self-report instruments were administered to patients with sciatica believed to be caused by a herniated lumbar disc to examine their quality of life and psychic stress at baseline and at the 1-year follow-up visit. Objectives. To investigate whether patients who have undergone a previous discectomy experience greater psychic stress than patients with no surgery, and to determine whether the groups differed regarding their health-related quality of life at the follow-up visit. Summary of Background Data. Previous studies have describe…

Relations between subdomains of physical activity, sedentary lifestyle, and quality of life in young adult men

2018

Purpose To assess the relationship between physical activity (PA) in work, transport, domestic and leisure-time domains (with sitting time included) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among young adult men. Methods The long version of IPAQ and SF-36 Health Survey were used to assess PA and HRQoL, respectively, in 1425 voluntary 20 to 40 year old Finnish male participants. Participants were divided into tertiles (MET-h/week): Lowest tertile ( 100 MET-h/week). Results The IPAQ domain leisure-time PA predicted positively the Physical Component Summary (PCS) (β=0.11, 95% CI: 0.06 to 0.16) and Mental Component Summary (MCS) (β=0.11, 95% CI: 0.05 to 0.16) dimensions. Occupational PA predi…
