A framework for behavior-based detection of user substitution in a mobile context

2007

Personal mobile devices, such as mobile phones, smartphones, and communicators can be easily lost or stolen. Due to the functional abilities of these devices, their use by unintended persons may result in severe security breaches concerning private or corporate data and services. Organizations develop their security policy and employ preventive techniques to combat unauthorized use. Current solutions, however, are still breakable and there is a strong need for means to detect user substitution when it happens. A crucial issue in designing such means is to define the measures to be monitored. In this paper, a structured conceptual framework for mobile-user substitution detection is proposed.…

Fringed Life Satisfaction? A Life-Course Perspective on the Impact of International Migration on Subjective Well-Being

2018

This chapter investigates the role of personal life events in changing levels of life satisfaction and tries to contrast migrants to native population in this respect. Marriage, divorce, separation, widowhood, and having children are considered as potential triggers for differential transformations of migrant lives as compared to non-migrant. The main assumption relies on the increased uncertainty and destandardization of migrant life course, given their spatial mobility that disrupts stages of traditional life cycle. The findings from the panel data obtained from German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP; Germany), collected during more than three decades, reveal higher sensitivity of migrants to…

Homeless Adults' Recovery Experiences in Housing First and Traditional Services Programs in Seven European Countries.

2020

Across Europe, as governments turn to housing-led strategies in attempts to reverse rising rates of homelessness, increasing numbers of Housing First (HF) programs are being implemented. As HF programs become more widespread, it is important to understand how service users experience them compared to the more prevalent traditional treatment-first approach to addressing long-term homelessness. Although there is a large body of research on service users' experiences of Housing First compared to treatment-first in North American contexts, comparatively less is known about how these two categories of homeless services are experienced in the European context. In a correlational and cross-section…

Are the most dedicated nurses more vulnerable to job insecurity? Age-specific analyses on family-related outcomes.

2013

Aim To examine the moderating roles of job dedication and age in the job insecurity–family-related well-being relationship. Background As job insecurity is a rather permanent stressor among nurses nowadays, more research is needed on the buffering factors alleviating its negative effects on well-being. Methods A total of 1719 Finnish nurses representing numerous health care organisations participated in this cross-sectional study. Moderated hierarchical regression analysis was used to examine the associations. Results Nurses’ younger age and low job dedication operated as protective factors against the negative effect of high job insecurity on parental satisfaction. The effect of job dedica…
