The Impact of Corporate Governance on Internet Financial Reporting in Concentrated Ownership Companies

2013

In the context of agency theory this study investigates the effect of corporate governance (CG) on Internet Fianncial Reporting disclosure (IFR) in concentrated ownership envitonment, such as Italy. We hypothesize that IFR may be explain in term of increasing trasparency in order to defen minority shareholder interest, so we predict, and find, a positive association between the extent of a firm's IFR and its CG and a negative assocaition between IFR and ownership structure. Abstract. This study investigates, upon agency theory, the effect of corporate governance (CG) on Internet Financial Reporting disclosure (IFR) in an ownership concentrated environment, such as Ita-ly. We hypothesize tha…

The distributional effects of capital account liberalization

2018

Abstract Episodes of account liberalization increase the Gini measure of inequality, based on panel data estimates for 149 countries from 1970 to 2010. These episodes are also associated with a persistent increase in the share of income going to the top. We investigate three channels through which these impacts could occur. First, the impact of liberalization on inequality is stronger where credit markets lack depth and financial inclusion is low; positive impacts of liberalization on poverty rates also vanish when financial inclusion is low. Second, the impact on inequality is also stronger when liberalization is followed by a financial crisis. Third, liberalization seems to alter the rela…

Projekts: Uzņēmuma "Jumis Finances" dibināšana

2017

A Low Cost Solution for 2D Memory Access

2006

Many of the new coding tools in the H.264/AVC video coding standard are based on 2D processing resulting in row-wise and column-wise memory accesses starting from arbitrary memory locations. This paper proposes a low cost solution for efficient realization of these 2D block memory accesses on sub-word parallel processors. It is based on the use of simple register-based data permutation networks placed between the processor and memory. The data rearrangement capabilities of the networks can further be extended with more complex control schemes. With the proposed control schemes, the networks enable row and column accesses from arbitrary memory locations for blocks of data while maintaining f…

Organisational transition challenges in the Finnish vocational education – perspective of distributed pedagogical leadership

2012

The article examines organisational challenges in the Finnish vocational education and training (VET) to support students’ lifelong learning pathways. Investigation of organizational challenges is done through the students’ transitions either within one school level or from one school level to another or to working life. For supporting the students’ learning pathways, it is argued here that specific attention has to be paid to collaborative practices of the personnel in order to guarantee the transitional fluency. This kind of collaboration is here called distributed pedagogical leadership. For examining the shared practices in the frame of distributed pedagogical leadership, the article in…

Innovative Changes for Reaching Sustainability in Universities

2013

Abstract This paper presents an original approach to the changes required for the transformation of universities in sustainable universities. The focus is on the innovative approach of all activities and relationships of the university: teaching, scientific research and other services offered by the university, the relations of the university with the communities where it operates, inter-university relations, relations with business environment, etc. Based on the experience and information gathered by the authors in the strategic project “Improving University Management”, it is proposed a better, more efficient and more effective way of using the resources of universities, thus sharing the …

Use of parallel computing to improve the accuracy of calculated molecular properties

1998

Calculation of electron correlation energy in molecules is unavoidable in accurate studies of chemical reactivity. However, these calculations involve, a computational effort several, even in the simplest cases, orders of magnitude larger than the computer power nowadays available. In this work the possibility of parallelize the calculations of the electron correlation energy is studied. The formalism chosen is the dressing of matrices in both distributed and shared memory parallel systems MIMD. Algorithms developed on PVM are presented, and the results are evaluated on several platforms. These results show that the parallel techniques are useful in order to decrease very appreciably the ti…

"Tajemny wspólnik" Josepha Conrada i "Tajemniczy sojusznik" Petera Fudakowskiego

2018

Although Peter Fudakowski's film is distinctly different from its literary original, and is not a faithful adaptation, it is very faithful to Conrad's message. It tells the story of the young captain; his increasing responsibility for his crew and his ship. Similarity of their (the writer and the filmmaker) memories and experience made Fudakowski understand and express Conrads message and interpret his prose in his own artistic way.

Has the Push for Equal Gender Representation Changed the Role of Women on German Supervisory Boards?

2017

In Germany, an intensive public debate about increasing female participation in leadership positions started in 2009 and proceeded until the beginning of 2015, when the German parliament enacted a board gender quota. In that period, the share of women on supervisory boards for 111 German publicly listed and fully codetermined companies (i.e. those which are affected by the quota law) more than doubled from 10.6 percent in 2009 to 22.6 percent in 2015. In 2016, the first year when the law was effective, the female share increased again by 4.5 percentage points. Using a hand-collected dataset, we investigate whether the rise in female board representation was accompanied by a change in gender…
