The THESEUS space mission concept: science case, design and expected performances

THESEUS is a space mission concept aimed at exploiting Gamma-Ray Bursts for investigating the early Universe and at providing a substantial advancement of multi-messenger and time-domain astrophysics. These goals will be achieved through a unique combination of instruments allowing GRB and X-ray transient detection over a broad field of view (more than 1sr) with 0.5¿1 arcmin localization, an energy band extending from several MeV down to 0.3¿keV and high sensitivity to transient sources in the soft X-ray domain, as well as on-board prompt (few minutes) follow-up with a 0.7¿m class IR telescope with both imaging and spectroscopic capabilities. Nuclear moments and the change in the mean square charge radius of neutron deficient thallium isotopes

The hyperfine structure, isotope and isomeric shifts in the atomic transition 6p 2 P 3/2−7s 2 S 1/2, λ=535 nm have been measured for theI=7 andI=2 states of190, 192, 194, 196Tl; theI=1/2 andI=9/2 states of191Tl and the I=7 isomer of188Tl. The thallium isotopes were prepared as fast atomic beams at the GSI on-line mass separator following fusion reactions and — in some cases — subsequentβ-decay. The nuclear dipole moments, electric quadrupole moments and the change in the nuclear mean square charge radius are evaluated. Theuu-isotopes show an isomeric shift which changes sign between192Tl and194Tl.

Potential antipsoriatic effect of chondroitin sulfate through inhibition of NF-κB and STAT3 in human keratinocytes

Abstract Chondroitin sulfate (CS) is a natural glycosaminoglycan, formed by the 1–3 linkage of d -glucuronic acid to N-acetylgalactosamine, present in the extracellular matrix. It is used as a slow acting disease modifying agent in the treatment of osteoarthritis, and part of its beneficial effects are due to its antiinflammatory properties that result from an inhibitory effect on NF-κB signaling pathway. This ability raises the hypothesis that CS might be effective in other chronic inflammatory processes such as psoriasis, in which a deregulation of NF-κB is a key feature. Political risks: the “red shift” in debt sustainability analysis

Political stability and economic policy uncertainty can be key determinants of sovereign debt dynamics, and we show how they can be incorporated in debt sustainability analysis. We distinguish between short-term ambiguity and long-term uncertainty about political risk factors, and using a combination of narrative scenarios and calibrated probabilistic scenarios we obtain a comprehensive heatmap of high-risk debt dynamics. We use Italy as an interesting case study and demonstrate a “red shift” in the assessment of vulnerabilities when accounting for political risks. Ignoring these risks can lead to excessive optimism and wrong decisions.

La stabilità del sistema politico istituzionale e l'incertezza riguardo le politiche economiche sono due fattori chiave che possono influenzare la dinamica del debito pubblico. Nell'articolo si propone un modello di analisi della sostenibilità del debito sovrano che tenga conto dei fattori di rischio concernenti l'assetto istituzionale di un paese e le sue politiche economiche. In particolare distinguendo fra ambiguità a breve termine e incertezza a lungo termine dei fattori di rischio politico e utilizzando una combinazione di scenari narrativi e scenari probabilistici si costruisce una "heatmap" che permette di attribuire ad ogni politica fiscale la probabilità che l'obiettivo di riduzione dello stock di debito o del deficit sia soddisfatto. Il modello è applicato al caso Italia. I risultati mostrano un "red shift" della vulnerabilità del debito pubblico italiano quando sono inclusi nell'analisi i fattori di rischio politico. The ROSAT-ESO Flux Limited X-ray (REFLEX) Galaxy Cluster Survey. V. The cluster catalogue

We present the catalogue of the REFLEX Cluster Survey providing information on the X-ray properties, redshifts, and some identification details of the clusters in the REFLEX sample. The catalogue describes a statistically complete X-ray flux-limited sample of 447 galaxy clusters above an X-ray flux of 3 10(-12) erg /s/cm**2 (0.1 to 2.4 keV) in an area of 4.24 ster in the southern sky. The cluster candidates were first selected by their X-ray emission in the ROSAT-All Sky Survey and subsequently spectroscopically identified in the frame of an ESO key programme. Anomalous Muon Knight Shift Behavior in a Cd Single Crystal

For the positive muon implanted in a metal the precession frequency shift due to hyperfine fields can be measured with high precision. This provides means to obtain information about the local electronic structure of a hydrogen like impurity in any metal in the indefinitely dilute impurity concentration. Ref. 1 gives a summary of the muon Knight shift (KS) investigations in 18 nontransition (simple) metals and some transition metals and discusses the results in the context of the electronic structure of hydrogen in metals.

Poleward range expansion without a southern contraction in the ground beetle Agonum viridicupreum (Coleoptera, Carabidae)

We investigated the extent of poleward shifts in the distribution range of Agonum viridicupreum due to climate change in the western Palaearctic. Species' records were obtained from extensive literature sources as well as from collections, and consistent amateur entomologists' recordings. Within the general geographic range of the species, we analyzed in detail two parts of both, the northern and southern distribution range boundaries: (1 and 2) north-western Germany (leading or high-latitude edge), (3) Israel and (4) southern Italy (rear or low-latitude edge).
