Estimation of the intensity of physical activity (PA) based on absolute accelerometer cut points (Cp) likely over- or underestimates intensity for a specific individual. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between absolute moderate intensity Cp and the first ventilatory threshold (VT1). Effects of contralateral white noise stimulation on transitory evoked otoacoustic emissions in patients with acoustic neuroma.

Abstract Transitory evoked otoacoustic emissions are normal phenomena observed in most persons with hearing levels greater than 35 dB. Further, masking of the contralateral ear produces amplitude reductions in the transitory evoked otoacoustic emissions. We have undertaken a study of transitory evoked otoacoustic emissions in 20 patients with acoustic neuroma. All patients were assessed for transitory evoked otoacoustic emissions bilaterally, with and without contralateral masking with white band noise at 40, 50, and 60 dB. Successful treatment of life-threatening bleeding after cesarean section with recombinant activated factor VII.

Hemorrhagic shock developed in a 29-year-old nullipara without coagulopathy after emergency caesarean section. Treatment with uterotonic drugs, prostaglandins, and conservative procedures with transfusion of packed red cells and fresh-frozen plasma failed to control the diffuse vaginal and uterine bleeding. Finally an intravenous bolus injection of 90 μg/kg recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa, NovoSeven®, Novo Nordisk A/S, Bagsvaerd, Denmark), was given and showed success within 20 minutes after administration, without any side effects.

Muscle damage induced by stretch-shortening cycle exercise

Strenuous stretch-shortening cycle exercise was used as a model to study the leakage of proteins from skeletal muscle.The analysis included serum levels of creatine kinase (S-CK), myoglobin (S-Mb), and carbonic anhydrase (S-CA III). Blood samples from power- (N=11) and endurance-trained (N=10) athletes were collected before, 0, and 2 h after the exercise, which consisted of a total of 400 jumps.The levels of all determined myocellular proteins increased immediately after the exercise (P0.05-0.001) among both subject groups. Sit-stand workstations offer a potential strategy to reduce prolonged occupational sitting. This controlled intervention study examined the effects of an environmental intervention on occupational sedentary time, musculoskeletal comfort and work ability, and the usability of sit-stand workstations in office work via a self-reported questionnaire.
