Top-quark pair + 1-jet production at next-to-leading order QCD

Top-quark pair production with an additional jet is an important signal and background process at the LHC. We present the next-to-leading order QCD calculation for this process and show results for integrated as well as differential cross sections.

We present a new adaptive genuinely multidimensional method within the framework of the discontinuous Galerkin method. The discontinuous evolution Galerkin (DEG) method couples a discontinuous Galerkin formulation with approximate evolution operators. The latter are constructed using the bicharacteristics of multidimensional hyperbolic systems, such that all of the infinitely many directions of wave propagation are considered explicitly. Assessing, measuring and modelling erosion in calanchi areas: A review

Calanchi are erosion landforms characterised by a heavily dissected terrain with steep, unvegetated slopes and channels with a dendritic pattern, which rapidly incise and extend headwards. Recent literature focusing on badland systems highlights their similarity with other larger fluvial landforms, stating that these behave as a full size laboratory, due to their rapid development in space and time and to the diversity of geomorphic processes involved. Bioaccumulation of hepatotoxins : A considerable risk in the Latvian environment

Abstract The Gulf of Riga, river Daugava and several interconnected lakes around the City of Riga, Latvia, form a dynamic brackish-freshwater system favouring occurrence of toxic cyanobacteria. We examined bioaccumulation of microcystins and nodularin-R in aquatic organisms in Latvian lakes, the Gulf of Riga and west coast of open Baltic Sea in 2002–2007. The freshwater unionids accumulated toxins efficiently, followed by snails. In contrast, Dreissena polymorpha and most lake fishes (except roach) accumulated much less hepatotoxins. A model for the γN → ππN reaction

We have studied the γN→ππN reaction using a model which includes N, Δ(1232), N*(1440) and N*(1520) intermediate baryonic states and the ρ-meson as intermediate ππ resonance. The model reproduces fairly well experimental cross sections below E γ = 800 MeV and invariant-mass distributions even at higher energies. One of the interesting findings of the study is that the γ N →N*(1520) → Δπ process is very important and interferes strongly with the dominant Δ-Kroll-Ruderman term to produce the experimental peak of the cross section.
The helicity matching approach to heavy hadron form factors

Abstract I discuss the helicity matching approach to current-induced transitions among heavy hadrons. This approach provides a simple and intuitively appealing access to the calculation of heavy hadron form factors which is entirely equivalent to the approach of Isgur and Wise and other authors, who use different techniques to obtain the same results. We work out explicit examples in the meson and baryon sectors and discuss possible approximations to the most general approach and some of their implications for future experiments.

This is mainly due to the fact that apart from the symmetric and alternating groups not many of them were known. In this article, we explore the prospects of Basic Income (BI) as a development policy tool. Our approach is to analyse the BI as a tool for promoting micro-investments and as a general development policy instrument, thus deliberately departing from the perception of cash transfers as targeted poverty reduction tools. As experiences in testing BI systems in developing country contexts are limited to local and regional experiments in Namibia and India (Haarmann et al., 2009; Haarmann & Haarmann, 2012; Davala et al., 2015), conclusive assessments about the impacts of the BI cannot be drawn.
