Contrasting Automatic and Manual Group Formation: A Case Study in a Software Engineering Postgraduate Course

This paper proposes the comparison of a group formation approach based on an evolutionary algorithm with a manual approach performed by an instructor with ten years of experience on this task. The groups were created based on the professional, psychological, and experience profile of each student. The results obtained demonstrated the algorithm’s potential, reaching an average similarity of \(83.46\%\) with the groups formed manually by the instructor.

Modeling the musical notes as fuzzy sets provides a flexible framework which better explains musicians’ daily practices. Taking into account one of the characteristics of the sound: the pitch (the frequency of a sound as perceived by human ear), a similarity relation between two notes can be defined. We call this relation compatibility. In the present work, we propose a method to asses the compatibility between musicians based on the compatibility of their interpretations of a given composition. Experimental Study of the Stage-Discharge Relationship for an Upstream Inclined Grid with Longitudinal Bars

AbstractIn this paper, the outflow process of an upstream inclined grid with longitudinal bars is studied by using the dimensional analysis and the incomplete self-similarity theory. Next, the theoretical analysis shows that a power equation can be used for establishing the stage-discharge equation. The coefficient and an exponent of the power equation depend on the slope angle and the void ratio. Finally, this new stage discharge is tested by using measurements obtained by laboratory runs conducted in this investigation.

New-stage discharge relationships for free and submerged sluice gates

Abstract The flow movement through a sluice gate is investigated for both free and submerged flow conditions. For free flow condition, the current dimensionless formula, indicated acceptable accuracy; while for submerged flow condition it was modified especially for low submerged condition. Abstract Gates are simple hydraulic structures which have been widely used for flow control and measurement in irrigation networks. In this paper new sluice gates with cylindrical and semi-cylindrical edges were introduced and the flow movement below these types of gates was experimentally investigated for both free- and submerged-flow conditions. .— The dimensions of perceiving other people were compared from two types of data, one representing a person's individual constructs and indexed by two different rating methods (Reptest technique and Similarity Ratings), the other constructs provided by the experimenter, also measured by two methods (Semantic Differential and Personality Differential). Brands, celebrities, or politicians are increasingly facing enormous online outrages in response to moral misconducts. These online firestorms are characterized by high message volume, indignant tonality, and negative opinion climate. Based on the concept of moral panics, this article analyzes why people join online firestorms. We argue that participation behavior is driven by a moral compass and a desire for social recognition. Item does not contain fulltext Variable- and person-oriented approaches were used to examine the affiliative and romantic experiences of adolescents in heterosexual romantic relationships and its associations with relationship conflict and jealousy on a sample of 194 romantic partner dyads.
