Large-Eddy Simulation of Flow and Heat Transfer in Compact Heat Exchangers

LES results are presented for different heat exchanger geometries. Subgrid terms were usually computed by the Smagorinsky model; preliminary comparative results are also given for the ‘dynamic’ subgrid model. The numerical methods used were those implemented in a commercial general-purpose code (CFDS-FLOW3D); they included a finite-volume approach, colocated body-fitted grids, central differencing for the advection terms, the SIMPLEC algorithm, and Crank-Nicolson time stepping. Implantable collamer lens and femtosecond laser for myopia: comparison using an adaptive optics visual simulator.

Purpose: To compare optical and visual quality of implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation and femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis (F-LASIK) for myopia. Methods: The CRX1 adaptive optics visual simulator (Imagine Eyes, Orsay, France) was used to simulate the wavefront aberration pattern after the two surgical procedures for -3-diopter (D) and -6-D myopia. γ‐Agregation operators and some aspects of generalized aggregation problem

We explore questions related to the aggregation operators and aggregation of fuzzy sets. No preliminary knowledge of the aggregation operators theory and of the fuzzy sets theory are required, because all necessary information is given in Section 2. Later we introduce a new class of γ‐aggregation operators, which “ignore” arguments less than γ. Due to this property γ‐aggregation operators simplify the aggregation process and extend the area of possible applications. Adjoint-based inversion for porosity in shallow reservoirs using pseudo-transient solvers for non-linear hydro-mechanical processes

Abstract Porous flow is of major importance in the shallow subsurface, since it directly impacts on reservoir-scale processes such as waste fluid sequestration or oil and gas exploration. Coupled and non-linear hydro-mechanical processes describe the motion of a low-viscous fluid interacting with a higher viscous porous rock matrix. This two-phase flow may trigger the initiation of solitary waves of porosity, further developing into vertical high-porosity pipes or chimneys. Abstract Despite a growing sense of urgency, the deployment of clean technologies has been affected by fragmentation of energy policy design and implementation. In some case, wicked policy issues around renewable energy infrastructure have delayed or even halted the uptake of renewables. To find possible answer to consistent policy design that involves public/private institutions of the electricity sector, the authors propose the adoption of a dynamic performance management approach to support the energy policy coordination.

This article provides a different angle to understand the Cambridge Analytica (CA) data scandal. It focuses on the role of models and simulations in the big data campaigning tools CA allegedly used, and their epistemological and ontological potential to produce and reproduce voters' digital doubles that would first colonise and eventually replace the analogue selves they were related to. Influence of coordinated traffic lights parameters on roadside pollutant concentrations

Abstract The paper examines the effects of coordinated traffic lights on CO and C 6 H 6 roadside concentrations in an urban area of Palermo in Southern Italy. Traffic loop detectors and one pollution-monitoring are used to collect data for use in DRACULA traffic microsimulator software. CO and C 6 H 6 roadside concentrations associated with varying cycle and offset times of the coordinated traffic lights are estimated using a neural network. Two functions were set up describing the relations of pollutant concentrations in term of cycle and offset time.
