Mathematical Modeling and Parameters Estimation of Car Crash Using Eigensystem Realization Algorithm and Curve-Fitting Approaches

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/262196 Open Access An eigensystem realization algorithm (ERA) approach for estimating the structural system matrices is proposed in this paper using the measurements of acceleration data available from the real crash test. A mathematical model that represents the real vehicle frontal crash scenario is presented. The model's structure is a double-spring-mass-damper system, whereby the front mass represents the vehicle-chassis and the rear mass represents the passenger compartment. The physical parameters of the model are estimated using cu…

Consistent shakedown theorems for materials with temperature dependent yield functions

2000

The (elastic) shakedown problem for structures subjected to loads and temperature variations is addressed in the hypothesis of elastic-plastic rate-independent associative material models with temperature-dependent yield functions. Assuming the yield functions convex in the stress/temperature space, a thermodynamically consistent small-deformation thermo-plasticity theory is provided, in which the set of state and evolutive variables includes the temperature and the plastic entropy rate. Within the latter theory the known static (Prager's) and kinematic (König's) shakedown theorems - which hold for yield functions convex in the stress space - are restated in an appropriate consistent format…

A Space-Vector State Dynamic Model of the Synchronous Reluctance Motor Including Self and Cross-Saturation Effects and its Parameters Estimation

2018

This paper proposes a space-vector dynamic model of the Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) including both self-saturation and cross-saturation effects and selecting as state variables the stator currents. The proposed dynamic model is based on an original function between the stator flux and stator current components, and relies on 8 coefficients (fewer than other models in the scientific literature), presenting an interesting physical interpretation. Starting from this approach, both the static and dynamic inductances expressions of the model have been analytically developed, so that the reciprocity conditions for the cross saturation is satisfied. This paper presents also a technique fo…

A comparison of simplex and simulated annealing for optimization of a new rear underrun protective device

2012

In this paper, two optimization approaches to improve the product design process have been analysed. Through the analysis of a case study, concerning the designing of a new High Energy Absorption Rear Underrun Protective Device (HEARUPD), two different optimization approaches (simplex and simulated annealing) have been compared. In the implemented optimization processes, the crash between an economy car and the rear part of a truck has been simulated by dynamic numerical (FEM) analyses. Moreover, authors have proposed the use of a suitable linear function of four variables with the purpose of reducing the multi-objective optimization processes to mono-objective ones. That has been made to s…

Modelling unilateral damage effect in strongly anisotropic materials by the introduction of the loading mode in damage mechanics

1999

Abstract Damage weakens the mechanical characteristics of materials. But this weakening can disappear if the cracks close again: this is called the unilateral effect of damage. We propose a model of this phenomenon using damage mechanics in the case of a diffuse network of identical microcracks. The microcracks state is defined with two internal state variables. These two variables are control parameters of the geometry of the microcracks. They also define the loading mode in damage mechanics as in fracture mechanics. In order to limit the anisotropy induced by the microcracks, hence by the loading, we suppose that the geometry of damage spreads into preferential directions. Therefore, this…

Statistical correlation of fractional oscillator response by complex spectral moments and state variable expansion

2016

Abstract The statistical characterization of the oscillator response with non-integer order damping under Gaussian noise represents an important challenge in the modern stochastic mechanics. In fact, this kind of problem appears in several issues of different type (wave propagation in viscoelastic media, Brownian motion, fluid dynamics, RLC circuit, etc.). The aim of this paper is to provide a stochastic characterization of the stationary response of linear fractional oscillator forced by normal white noise. In particular, this paper shows a new method to obtain the correlation function by exact complex spectral moments. These complex quantities contain all the information to describe the r…

Space-vector State Dynamic Model of the Synchronous Reluctance Motor Considering Self, Cross-Saturation and Iron Losses

2021

This paper proposes a space-vector dynamic model of the Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) including both self-saturation, cross-saturation effects, and iron losses expressed in state form, where the magnetizing current has been selected as a state variable. The proposed dynamic model is based on an original function between the stator flux and the magnetizing current components, improving a previously developed magnetic model. Additionally, the proposed model includes, besides the magnetic saturation, also iron losses. The proposed model requires 11 coefficients, among which 6 describe the self-saturation on both axes and 5 describe the cross-saturation. Starting from the definition of a…

A Bayesian analysis of the thermal challenge problem

2008

Abstract A major question for the application of computer models is Does the computer model adequately represent reality? Viewing the computer models as a potentially biased representation of reality, Bayarri et al. [M. Bayarri, J. Berger, R. Paulo, J. Sacks, J. Cafeo, J. Cavendish, C. Lin, J. Tu, A framework for validation of computer models, Technometrics 49 (2) (2007) 138–154] develop the simulator assessment and validation engine ( SAVE ) method as a general framework for answering this question. In this paper, we apply the SAVE method to the challenge problem which involves a thermal computer model designed for certain devices. We develop a statement of confidence that the devices mode…

Desarrollo de habilidades de modelación desde las ecuaciones más simples de la Hidrodinámica

2017

[EN] The development of modeling skills is a very important issue in Science teaching nowadays. The present workillustrates how, from the simplest equations of hydrodynamics, it is possible to contribute to this end. Bernoulliand continuity equations are included in Physics syllabi of secondary and university levels, and can be seen as alinking between general and professional education. By means of the proposed project, students are taken throughgeneral stages which are usually present in any engineering project or research work based on modeling and simu-lation. such as the formulation of the problem, the statement of the Physics model, a computational simulationand the comparison between…

Applications of the vehicle routing problem with trailers and transshipments

2013

Abstract The vehicle routing problem with trailers and transshipments (VRPTT) is a recent and challenging extension of the well-known vehicle routing problem. The VRPTT constitutes an archetypal representative of the class of vehicle routing problems with multiple synchronization constraints (VRPMSs). In addition to the usual task covering constraints, VRPMSs require further synchronization between vehicles, concerning spatial, temporal, and load aspects. VRPMSs possess considerable practical relevance, but limited coverage in the scientific literature. The purpose of the present paper is to describe how several important types of VRPMSs, such as multi-echelon location-routing problems and …
