Fourier-transform spectroscopy and coupled-channels deperturbation treatment of theA 1Σ+–b 3Πcomplex of KCs

2010

The laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) A {sup 1{Sigma}+}-b {sup 3{Pi}{yields}}X {sup 1{Sigma}+} spectra of the KCs molecule were recorded in a near infrared region by a Fourier-transform spectrometer with a resolution of 0.03 cm{sup -1}. Overall more than 200 collisionally enhanced LIF spectra were rotationally assigned to {sup 39}K{sup 133}Cs and {sup 41}K{sup 133}Cs isotopomers yielding more than 3400 rovibronic term values of the strongly mixed singlet A {sup 1{Sigma}+} and triplet b {sup 3{Pi}} states with the uncertainty of 0.003-0.01 cm{sup -1}. Experimental data massive starts from the lowest vibrational level v{sub A}=0 of the singlet and nonuniformly covers the energy range E is an e…

Photophysical behavior of norharmane related to proximity effect

1990

Abstract Solvent and temperature effects of fluorescence and its polarization characteristics for norharmane were studied. From the results obtained it is concluded that the fluorescent state changes from the φφ ∗ -type in a polar solvent (EPA) to nφ ∗ -type in a nonpolar solvent (MC), and also that lowest singlet excited states (φφ ∗ -type and nφ ∗ -type) interact by vibronic coupling. In the nonpolar solvent (MC) the lowest singlet excited states are very close in energy and consequently the vibronic coupling is stronger. At high temperatures, in a nonpolar solvent (MC), the emission is from both the φφ ∗ - and nφ ∗ -states due to thermal equilibration, while at low temperatures the emiss…

Molecular Basis of DNA Photodimerization: Intrinsic Production of Cyclobutane Cytosine Dimers

2008

Based on CASPT2 results, the present contribution establishes for the first time that cytosine photodimer formation (CC) is mediated along the triplet and singlet manifold by a singlet-triplet crossing, (T1/S0)X, and by a conical intersection, (S1/S0)CI, respectively. The former can be accessed in a barrierless way from a great variety of photochemical avenues and exhibits a covalent single bond between the ethene C6-C6' carbon atoms of each monomer. The efficiency of the stepwise triplet mechanism, however, would be modulated by the effectiveness of the intersystem crossing mechanism. The results provide the grounds for the understanding of the potential photogenotoxicity of endogenous and…

Singlet-Triplet States Interaction Regions in DNA/RNA Nucleobase Hypersurfaces.

2010

The present study provides new insight into the intrinsic mechanisms for the population of the triplet manifold in DNA nucleobases by determining, at the multiconfigurational CASSCF/CASPT2 level, the singlet-triplet states crossing regions and the main decay paths for their lowest singlet and triplet states after near-UV irradiation. The studied singlet-triplet interacting regions are accessible along the minimum energy path of the initially populated singlet bright (1)ππ* state. In particular, all five natural DNA/RNA nucleobases have, at the end of the main minimum energy path and near a conical intersection of the ground and (1)ππ* states, a low-energy, easily accessible, singlet-triplet…

Photosensitization and phototherapy with furocoumarins: A quantum-chemical study

2008

Abstract The effect of electromagnetic radiation on biological objects extends from heating to complex photochemistry, and includes DNA alteration, that properly modified in damaged cells may entail beneficial effects. In this regard, psoralen + UV-A (PUVA) therapy, in which furocoumarins, psoralen-like chromophores, are used as photosensitizers and photoreactants with DNA bases, is one of the most promising strategies against a plethora of diseases. Understanding the underlying photochemical mechanisms is crucial to design effective drugs without undesired side effects. We have undertaken a quantum-mechanical study on the photophysics and photochemistry of furocoumarins, analyzing firstly …

The Proton Spin in the Chiral Bag Model : Casimir Contribution and Cheshire Cat Principle

1998

The flavor singlet axial charge has been a source of study in the last years due to its relation to the so called {\it Proton Spin Problem}. The relevant flavor singlet axial current is anomalous, i.e., its divergence contains a piece which is the celebrated $U_A(1)$ anomaly. This anomaly is intimately associated with the $\eta^\prime$ meson, which gets its mass from it. When the gauge degrees of freedom of QCD are confined within a volume as is presently understood, the $U_A(1)$ anomaly is known to induce color anomaly leading to "leakage" of the color out of the confined volume (or bag). For consistency of the theory, this anomaly should be canceled by a boundary term. This ``color bounda…

TheN-? transition form factor and anomalous?-decays into octet-decuplet baryon-antibaryon Pairs

1987

We develop a Generalized-Vector-Meson Dominance Model (GVDM) for the invariantN-Δ transition form factors which incorporates the correct largeq2 power behaviour of QCD and describes the available lowq2 space-like data. We then use this GVDM transition form factor in the time-like region to calculate theSU (3) singlet and octet contributions to Ψ-decays into octet-decuplet baryon-antibaryon pairs. The results are compared to recent data on Ψ-decays into octet-decuplet baryon-antibaryon pairs.

S3 symmetry and the quark mixing matrix

2016

We impose an $S_3$ symmetry on the quark fields under which two of three quarks transform like a doublet and the remaining one as singlet, and use a scalar sector with the same structure of $SU(2)$ doublets. After gauge symmetry breaking, a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ subgroup of the $S_3$ remains unbroken. We show that this unbroken subgroup can explain the approximate block structure of the CKM matrix. By allowing soft breaking of the $S_3$ symmetry in the scalar sector, we show that one can generate the small elements, of quadratic or higher order in the Wolfenstein parametrization of the CKM matrix. We also predict the existence of exotic new scalars, with unconventional decay properties, which can …

Search for resonant top quark plus jet production intt¯+jetsevents with the ATLAS detector inppcollisions ats=7  TeV

2012

This paper presents a search for a new heavy particle produced in association with a top or antitop quark. Two models in which the new heavy particle is a color singlet or a color triplet are considered, decaying, respectively, to (t)over-barq or tq, leading to a resonance within the t(t)over-bar + jets signature. The full 2011 ATLAS pp collision data set from the LHC (4.7 fb(-1)) is used to search for t(t)over-bar events produced in association with jets, in which one of the W bosons from the top quarks decays leptonically and the other decays hadronically. The data are consistent with the Standard Model expectation, and a new particle with mass below 430 Gev for both W' boson and color tr…
