Chequered blue butterfly, Scolitantides orion (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) has severely declined in many parts of Europe and is currently red-listed in many countries. We studied the population structure and turnover of the species in a lake-island system in a National Park in eastern Finland over a three-year period. The incidence of the chequered blue on the suitable islands (n = 41) and habitat patches (n = 123) was high: an average of 82% of the islands and patches were occupied over the three year period. Dati non univoci sono riportati in letteratura sul ruolo della dislipidemia nello sviluppo dell’ipertrofia ventricolare sinistra. Scopo del nostro studio, è stato quello di valutare le potenziali associazioni dei principali parametri lipidici con la massa ventricolare sinistra (LVM) in pazienti con ipertensione essenziale (EHs). Abbiamo arruolato 724 soggetti con EH (età media 45±12 anni; 63% maschi), senza complicanze cardiovascolari e non trattati con farmaci ipolipemizzanti. In tutti i soggetti dono stati dosati la colesterolemia totale (Tchol), la trigliceridemia (TG) e il colesterolo HDL (HDLc). Analysis of a complex high-strain zone at Cap de Creus, Spain

Abstract The structural analysis of a high-strain zone developed in medium- to high-grade metamorphic micaschists from the Cap de Creus area, Spain provides an example of the complex relationships between geometry, strain and kinematics to be found in deep crustal shear zones. This high-strain zone is composed of E-W trending structural domains characterized by different strain intensities and associated with syntectonic emplacement of pegmatite dykes. The main phase of deformation discussed here, D2, affects steeply dipping bedding, boudinaged quartz veins and S1 developed parallel to bedding. Although the definition and clinical importance of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) are still under debate [1], there is clear evidence that MetS considerably increases the risk of cardiovascular (CV) and renal events, in general population and also in subjects with high blood pressure (BP), even in absence of diabetes [2-5]. In some studies the CV morbidity and mortality risk associated with MetS was found to be higher in the female sex [3]. Abstract The tectonic evolution at the junction of the Panafrican Kaoko and Damara belts is well recorded in the siliciclastic and carbonate successions of the Neoproterozoic Zerrissene turbidite system, metamorphosed to the biotite zone of the greenschist facies. The structures in the turbidites are attributed to two main deformational events. The older one generated two continuous folding phases, D1 and D2, and the younger one resulted in D3 deformation. D1, of dominant E–W shortening, caused upright kilometre-scale folds with well-developed axial planar cleavage, N–S trending axial planes and subhorizontal axes.
