App-based intervention among adolescents with persistent pain: a pilot feasibility randomized controlled trial

2020

Abstract Background Persistent pain in adolescence adversely affects everyday life and is an important public health problem. The primary aim was to determine the feasibility of an 8-week app-based self-management intervention to reduce pain and improve health-related quality of life in a community-based population of adolescents with persistent pain. A secondary aim was to explore differences in health outcomes between the intervention and control groups. Methods A sample of 73 adolescents aged 16–19 years with persistent pain from a community-based population were randomized into 2 groups. The intervention group received the Norwegian culturally adapted version of the iCanCope with PainTM…

Assessment of cognitive function, structural brain changes and fatigue 6 months after treatment of neuroborreliosis

2022

Abstract Background Complete recovery after adequately treated neuroborreliosis is common, but studies report that some patients experience persistent symptoms like self-reported cognitive problems and fatigue. Persisting symptoms are often termed post-Lyme disease syndrome, of which etiology is not clearly understood. The aim of this study was to investigate cognitive function, possible structural changes in brain regions and level of fatigue. We have not found previous studies on neuroborreliosis that use standardized neuropsychological tests and MRI with advanced image processing to investigate if there are subtle regional changes in cortical thickness and brain volumes after treatment. …

Sleep patterns and psychosocial health of parents of preterm and full-born infants: a prospective, comparative, longitudinal feasibility study

2022

Abstract Background The early birth and hospitalization of a preterm infant in neonatal intensive care unit can produce several emotional and behavioural responses including sleep problems for parents. Few studies have explored sleep and its associations with health and HRQoL over time in this vulnerable parent population. This purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a prospective, comparative, longitudinal study of the sleep patterns and psychosocial health of preterm and full-born infants’ parents during the first postpartum year. Methods A prospective, comparative, longitudinal feasibility study was conducted. Parents of preterm infants were compared to parents of full-b…

The relationship between stress and health-related quality of life and the mediating role of self-efficacy in Norwegian adolescents: a cross-sectiona…

2022

Abstract Background During the transitional phase from childhood to adulthood, adolescents encounter many changes and challenges. Stress is associated with reduced health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in adolescents and, thus, impacts all aspects of their life. Adolescents’ thoughts and beliefs in their capacity may be essential with regard to their subjective perception of stress and coping with it. Insights into the complexity of stress and exploration of the possible underlying mechanisms in adolescence are needed. We sought to describe stress, HRQOL, and self-efficacy and explore the association between stress and HRQOL by testing for self-efficacy as a possible mediator in adolescent…

Use of KIDSCREEN health-related quality of life instruments in the general population of children and adolescents - A scoping review

2023

Abstract Purpose Subjectively assessing health related quality of life (HRQoL) in children and adolescents is increasingly important in the public health field. One valid and widely used generic HRQoL instrument is the KIDSCREEN questionnaire. The aim of this study was to map all studies using KIDSCREEN instruments in the general population of children and adolescents aged 6–18 years. Methods A scoping review was conducted. The search strategy was formulated according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Scoping Reviews guidelines. The databases Cinahl, socINDEX, Medline, Embase, APA Psychinfo, Scopus, and Eric were searched in October 2021. Results In total, 1365 pap…

Accelerometer-determined physical activity and self-reported health in a population of older adults (65-85 years): A cross-sectional study

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: BMC Public Health. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/1471-2458-14-284 Open Access Background: The link between physical activity (PA) and prevention of disease, maintenance of independence, and improved quality of life in older adults is supported by strong evidence. However, there is a lack of data on population levels in this regard, where PA level has been measured objectively. The main aims were therefore to assess the level of accelerometer-determined PA and to examine its associations with self-reported health in a population of Norwegian older adults (65-85 years). Methods. This was a part of a national mul…

Sam…

Patient Experiences and Digital Involvement in Patient-centred Care Models

2019

The provision of individualised treatment and care from health care services to patients with chronic conditions and multi-morbidities is under pressure because of an increasing elderly population. There is a need for services that are: 1) person-centred, 2) integrated and 3) proactive, and supported by digital technology. The research project 3P- Patients and Professionals in Productive Teams aims to study different patient-centred teamwork models in Norway and Denmark. This paper presents a study on patients’ experiences and digital involvement in patient-centred care teams. Qualitative research methods were applied with interviews and demonstrations of technology use made at patient’s ho…
