Shape and dimensional accuracy in Single Point Incremental Forming: State of the art and future trends
2007
Abstract The paper is aimed to discuss some relevant issues concerning an innovative sheet metal forming technology, namely Single Point Incremental Forming. The advantages of this technology are addressed, including its capability to provide effective answers to some impellent industrial requirements: process flexibility, strong customer orientation, production of highly differentiated goods at low industrial costs. As well some relevant drawbacks are highlighted, mainly as concerns the level of accuracy permitted by the process. A wide recognition of the research efforts in this field is presented, taking into account some general considerations on the difference sources of shape and dime…
A Simple Method to Assess Loadability of Radial Distribution Networks
2005
This paper proposes a simple method to asses loadability in radial distribution systems. The relevant problem of voltage stability has been dealt with in past times with reference to higher voltage systems for generation and transmission. In more recent papers, the problem has been considered also at distribution level, since the new electrical energy market requirements and the increasing loadings are now more and more influencing these systems. The proposed method is based on a static approach and proceeds by first evaluating the stability indices and then the different loadability factors (related to real, reactive and apparent power). These calculations are carried out by identifying, s…
An economic study about the installation of PV plants reconfiguration systems in Italy
2014
This paper shows the economic convenience of the application of a reconfiguration system for photovoltaic plants, considering the incentives system in Italy and its recent modifications. The reconfiguration is an alternative to the Distributed Maximum Power Point Tracking, DMPPT, technique used to overcome the mismatch problem in Photovoltaic, PV, plants. The reconfiguration techniques employ a microprocessor-based system that modifies the layout of the PV plant by physically changing the connections among modules. After the explanation of the working principle of the PV reconfiguration system allowing the improvement of the efficiency of the same plant and the relevant installation, the ma…
Transition of a distribution system towards an active network. Part II: Economical analysis of selected scenario
2011
This paper outlines the economical issues related to the transition of the energy generation for a real MV/LV distribution system from a ‘fuel based’ one to a distributed and smart ‘renewables based’ one. It is the prosecution of a companion paper, which addressed the technical issues connected to such transition. The study has been carried out by University of Palermo and ENEA (Italy), on a portion of real MV/LV distribution system of the research center ENEA of Casaccia (Rome, Italy). The analysis is carried out for a specific scenario chosen among those proposed in the companion paper.
Technical, Environmental and Economical Aspects of Hybrid Systems Including Renewables and Fuel Cells
2006
In this paper, some configurations including renewables and fuel cells are studied. Technical, environmental and economical aspects are treated in the frame of the EU regulations concerning the ‘emission trading’ issue and the way in which Italy has implemented the relevant EU directive. The study has been carried out considering some architectures including renewables such as photovoltaic and wind with a back up system to increase continuity of supply based on the application of fuel cells and of a hydrogen storage system. Performing several runs with different values of the cost of energy (COE) bought from the network and produced with traditional fuel, it has been observed that, for some…
Dynamics photovoltaic generators: Technical aspects and economical valuation
2010
The strategy adopted from many European nations and not, to entrust the electric energy production to differently energetic sources has determined an increment of the scientific research for the solar resource exploitation. These scientific community activities follows with attention from the entrepreneurial world have concentrated on the innovative techniques and methodologies of the source conversion, solar concentration and the direction's device optimization. This job focuses its attention on the simple application of solar-track device, based on consolidated technologies. The diffused application of these dispositive, could be, shortly, an important increment of electricity generation …
Uncertainty evaluation of a Backward/Forward Load Flow algorithm for a MV smart grid
2015
This paper presents the uncertainty evaluation of an innovative measurement algorithm for load flow analysis in MV distribution networks. The measurement procedure is based on Low Voltage (LV) load power measurements applied on a Backward/Forward (B/F) algorithm for the Load Flow (LF) resolution. Furthermore, in the procedure a three phase voltage measurement at the MV generating substation bus-bars is also considered. The accuracy analysis of the LF algorithm is performed in the case of a real load condition in the distribution grid of Ustica island, Italy. The analysis takes into account the uncertainty of the measurement instruments at the LV side of each secondary substation power trans…
On the FSW of AA2024-T4 and AA7075-T6 T-joints: an industrial case study
2009
In this paper, the authors present the results of a wide experimental campaign on aeronautical T-shaped parts of industrial interest characterized by dissimilar materials for the skin and stringer. The friction stir welding process engineering was developed with the aim to determine the specific process parameters determining the soundness on the obtained T-parts both from the metallurgical and mechanical point of view. Furthermore, the performance of the obtained T-joints was investigated.
Uprating an Overhead Line. Italian TSO Applications for Integration of RES
2013
The increase of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) production units has caused significant changes in the electrical system configuration. The existing structural asset isn't adequate to dispatch these new power flows that, at same time, should be favorite by various TSOs in order to obtain incentives. The outage of primary substations on the grid and the increase of consumptions have caused growing load currents on existing overhead line. This paper, after introducing thermal resistant conductors and Dynamic Rating (DR) solutions, reports an applications used by TERNA Group S.p.A. (Italian TSO). These systems are already installed on lines and they are contributing to increase power flows than…
Distribution grid analysys through PSAT open source tools
2015
In this paper a study of an electrical distribution grid with presence of renewable energy sources performed using the Power System Analysis Tool is presented. The paper describes the load flow analysis of a real existing grid owned by the Italian DSO “ENEL Distribuzione SpA” and located in an urban area.
