On the stability of the Serrin problem

2008

We investigate stability issues concerning the radial symmetry of solutions to Serrin's overdetermined problems. In particular, we show that, if $u$ is a solution to $\Delta u=n$ in a smooth domain $\Omega \subset \rn$, $u=0$ on $\partial\Omega$ and $|Du|$ is close to 1 on $\partial\Omega$, then $\Omega$ is close to the union of a certain number of disjoint unitary balls.

Effects of a brief pre‑admission telephone reminder on no‑show and dropout rates in substance use disorder treatment: a quasi‑experimental study

2022

Abstract Background Appointment no-show and early dropout from treatment represent major challenges in outpatient substance use disorder treatment, adversely affecting clinical outcomes and health care productivity. In this quasi-experimental study, we examined how a brief reminder intervention for new patients before their first appointment affected treatment participation and retention. No-shows (not attending any sessions) and dropouts (discontinuation of initiated treatment because of three consecutively missed appointments) were compared between a period with pre-admission telephone calls (intervention) and a period without such reminders (non-intervention). Methods Participants were a…

The Calderón problem for the fractional Schrödinger equation

2020

We show global uniqueness in an inverse problem for the fractional Schr\"odinger equation: an unknown potential in a bounded domain is uniquely determined by exterior measurements of solutions. We also show global uniqueness in the partial data problem where the measurements are taken in arbitrary open, possibly disjoint, subsets of the exterior. The results apply in any dimension $\geq 2$ and are based on a strong approximation property of the fractional equation that extends earlier work. This special feature of the nonlocal equation renders the analysis of related inverse problems radically different from the traditional Calder\'on problem.

Forecasting Aquaponic Systems Behaviour With Recurrent Neural Networks Models

2022

Aquaponic systems provide a reliable solution to grow vegetables while cultivating fish (or other aquatic organisms) in a controlled environment. The main advantage of these systems compared with traditional soil-based agriculture and aquaculture installations is the ability to produce fish and vegetables with low water consumption. Aquaponics requires a robust control system capable of optimizing fish and plant growth while ensuring a safe operation. To support the control system, this work explores the design process of Deep Learning models based on Recurrent Neural Networks to forecast one hour of pH values in small-scale industrial Aquaponics. This implementation guides us through the m…

Riella cossoniana Trab. (Riellaceae, Marchantiophyta) new to France

2014

Riella (Riellaceae, Sphaerocarpales) is a genus of aquatic liverworts with disjunct range in areas of Mediterranean-type climates. Riella has been traditionally subdivided into two subgenera, subgenus Riella, whose plants show smooth or papillose female involucres and Trabutiella, whose plants show winged female involucres. To date only three species of Riella are known in France, all belonging to subgenus Riella. During the course of a study of the plant diversity of temporary brackish ponds in the Camargue area (Southern France), soil sediments were collected from 10 localities and cultivated in the laboratory. From cultures of five of these localities emerged dioicous plants of Riella sh…

Riella bialata Trab. (Riellaceae, Marchantiophyta): A new addition to the European liverwort flora

2013

[EN] Riella (Riellaceae, Sphaerocarpales) is a genus of aquatic liverworts with a disjunct worldwide distribution in areas of seasonal Mediterranean-type climates. Its centre of diversity is located in the Mediterranean basin, where about half the species number of the genus is concentrated. In the course of a worldwide revision of the genus Riella, plants from a monoicous species with wingless, not papillose and smooth involucres were found in two distant Iberian localities. These plants showed a geminate dorsal wing, unlike the single wing occurring in the remaining species of the genus. This character unambiguously assigns these populations to R. bialata, a species known to date from a s…

Teaching Archaeological Heritage Management: Towards a Change in Paradigms

2018

The concept of archaeological heritage management (AHM) has been key to wider archaeological research and preservation agendas for some decades. Many universities and other education providers now offer what is best termed heritage management education (HME) in various forms. The emphasis is commonly on archaeological aspects of heritage in a broad sense and different terms are often interchangeable in practice. In an innovative working-conference held in Tampere, Finland, we initiated a debate on what the components of AHM as a course or curriculum should include. We brought together international specialists and discussed connected questions around policy, practice, research and teaching/…

Blockchain-Based Land Registration System: A Conceptual Framework

2022

Land registration authorities are frequently held accountable for the alleged mismanagement and manipulation of land records in various countries. Pakistan’s property records are especially vulnerable to falsification and corruption because of the country’s poverty. Different parties therefore claim varying degrees of authority over a specific piece of land. Given the fact that this data has been consolidated, it has become significantly more vulnerable to security threats. The goal of decentralized system research has been to increase the reliability of these systems. In order to fix the flaws of centralized systems, blockchain-based decentralized systems are currently in development. By u…

An Effective Wireless Sensor Network Routing Protocol Based on Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm

2022

Improving wireless communication and artificial intelligence technologies by using Internet of Things (Itoh) paradigm has been contributed in developing a wide range of different applications. However, the exponential growth of smart phones and Internet of Things (IoT) devices in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is becoming an emerging challenge that adds some limitations on Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. End-to-end latency, energy consumption, and packet loss during transmission are the main QoS requirements that could be affected by increasing the number of IoT applications connected through WSNs. To address these limitations, an effective routing protocol needs to be designed for …
