In order to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of a high intravenous dose of rifampin plus oral minocycline (administered daily for 3 weeks) for the treatment of acute brucellosis, we retrospectively reviewed the outcome of 239 consecutive patients (135 adults and 104 children) diagnosed and treated over a 17-year period in Italy. The combination used resulted in 100% response and a relapse rate lower than 2%. Cavernous angiomas are mostly small intracranial vascular lesions which can be intraoperatively localized by sonography or stereotactic methods. This paper compares the results of cavernous angioma surgery localized by frame-based vs frameless techniques. Thirty-nine patients with cortical or subcortical lobar cavernoma were operated on by a microsurgical trans-sulcal approach. The localization of the lesion was performed in 19 (49%) patients by frame-based technique and in 20 (51%) patients by frameless navigation. Upon sexual maturation, olfactory acuity in women ameliorates and starts oscillating across the cycle. During ovulation, mean olfactory threshold is 30 times lower than during bleeding. Interestingly, menstruated women undergo maleodorant trimethylaminuria. We argued that olfactory amelioration during ovulation might concur to a mating strategy, whereas olfactory impairment during bleeding might protect women against self-refusal. Aim to assess the accuracy of magnetic resonance-enterography in predicting the extension, location and characteristics of the small bowel segments affected by Crohn's disease.
