SNR measurements of silicon photomultipliers in the continuous wave regime

2014

We report on our Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) measurements carried out, in the continuous wave regime, at different frequencies and at various temperatures, on a novel class of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) fabricated in planar technology on silicon p-type substrate. SNR of SiPMs is given by the ratio of the photogenerated current, filtered and averaged by a lock-in amplifier, and the Root Mean Square (RMS) deviation of the same current. In our measurements, we have employed a 10 Hz equivalent noise bandwidth, around the lock-in amplifier reference frequency. The measured noise takes into account the shot noise, resulting from the photocurrent and the dark current, while background light …

Hydrodynamic modelling of ejecta shrapnel in the Vela supernova remnant

2013

Many supernova remnants (SNRs) are characterized by a knotty ejecta structure. The Vela SNR is an excellent example of remnant in which detached clumps of ejecta are visible as X-ray emitting bullets that have been observed and studied in great detail. We aim at modelling the evolution of ejecta shrapnel in the Vela SNR, investigating the role of their initial parameters (position and density) and addressing the effects of thermal conduction and radiative losses. We performed a set of 2-D hydrodynamic simulations describing the evolution of a density inhomogeneity in the ejecta profile. We explored different initial setups. We found that the final position of the shrapnel is very sensitive …

BASE-SPECIFIC RIBONUCLEASES POTENTIALLY INVOLVED IN HETEROGENEOUS NUCLEAR-RNA PROCESSING AND POLY(A) METABOLISM

1984

Abstract Polyadenylation and splicing of heterogeneous nuclear RNA, two crucial steps in mRNA processing, are apparently enzymically mediated processes. This contribution summarizes the properties and the presumed functions of the known poly(A) catabolic enzymes (endoribonuclease IV and V, 2′,3′-exoribonuclease) as well as those of the pyrimidine-specific endoribonucleases associated with snRNP—hnRNP complexes (endoribonuclease VII, acidic p I 4.1 endoribonuclease and poly(U)-specific U1 snRNP-nuclease).

SANS (USH1G) regulates pre-mRNA splicing by mediating the intra-nuclear transfer of tri-snRNP complexes

2021

Abstract Splicing is catalyzed by the spliceosome, a compositionally dynamic complex assembled stepwise on pre-mRNA. We reveal links between splicing machinery components and the intrinsically disordered ciliopathy protein SANS. Pathogenic mutations in SANS/USH1G lead to Usher syndrome—the most common cause of deaf-blindness. Previously, SANS was shown to function only in the cytosol and primary cilia. Here, we have uncovered molecular links between SANS and pre-mRNA splicing catalyzed by the spliceosome in the nucleus. We show that SANS is found in Cajal bodies and nuclear speckles, where it interacts with components of spliceosomal sub-complexes such as SF3B1 and the large splicing cofact…
