ACTIVIDAD FÍSICA Y DISCAPACIDAD: UN ESTUDIO CUALITATIVO CON MUJERES EN UN GIMNASIO ADAPTADO

2017

Subtypes of non-transformed human mammary epithelial cells cultured in vitro: histo-blood group antigen H type 2 defines basal cell-derived cells.

1993

Normal (non-transformed) human mammary epithelial cell lines derived from reduction mammoplasties were analyzed by immunocytochemistry with more than 80 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and other specific reagents to tissue-specific and developmentally regulated antigens at different passage levels. A subpopulation of poorly differentiated, proliferating epithelial cells, corresponding to the 'selected' cell type of late passages, is shown to be characterized by a new marker, the histo-blood group antigen H type 2, probably carried on a membrane-bound glycolipid. These cells also express a number of other onco-developmental carbohydrate antigens [Le(y), Le(x), sialosyl-Le(a), precursor of Thoms…

16thIHIW: Anti-HLA alloantibodies of the of IgA isotype in re-transplant candidates

2012

Summary In this multicentre study, sera from 803 retransplant candidates, including 775 kidney transplant recipients, were analysed with regard to the presence and specificity of anti-HLA alloantibodies of the IgA isotype using a modified microsphere-based platform. Of the kidney recipients, nearly one-third (n = 237, 31%) had IgA alloantibodies. Mostly, these antibodies were found in sera that also harboured IgG alloantibodies that could be found in a total of 572 (74%) of patients. Interestingly, IgA anti-HLA antibodies were preferentially targeting HLA class I antigens in contrast to those of the IgG isotype, which targeted mostly both HLA class I and II antigens. Donor specificity of th…

Detection of Anti-MICA Antibodies in Patients Awaiting Kidney Transplantation, during the Post-transplant Course, and in Eluates from Rejected Kidney…

2005

Previously we have reported on the development of antibodies against MICA alleles in kidney transplant recipients. These alloantibodies have now been determined using a new assay using Luminex beads bound to soluble recombinant MICA antigens produced in insect cells. In the present study we have analyzed sera from 85 kidney transplant recipients on the waiting list and 66 patients transplanted within the last 4 years and 59 acid eluates obtained from allograft nephrectomy specimens. Many of the patients in those groups were sensitized and some had previous transplants (waiting list: 15%; post-tx: 7.6%; eluates 22%) and their sera were found to contain anti-human leukocyte antigen (HLA) and …

Retrospective review of L3 myelomeningocele in three age groups: should posterolateral iliopsoas transfer still be indicated to stabilize the hip?

2005

The data from 58 hips in 29 myelodysplastic children with L3 paralysis has been reviewed retrospectively. Posterolateral transfer of the iliopsoas (Sharrard technique) was performed on all hips to correct muscle imbalance between 1975 and 1992. The average length of follow-up was 21 years. Preoperatively, 58.6% of the hips were either subluxated or dislocated (these were surgically reduced at the same stage). Radiological assessment revealed that 91.4% of the hips were stable at preschool age and 84.5% in adolescence. Of the patients 86% were functional walkers at preschool age and 75.8% in adolescence. Downward transitions in seven patients were related to the presence of scoliosis, spasti…

Impaired cellular immune responses in chronic renal failure: Evidence for a T cell defect

1986

Impaired cellular immune responses in chronic renal failure: Evidence for a T cell defect. Cellular immune responses in vitro were studied in 24 patients on chronic hemodialysis and 16 healthy volunteers with normal kidney function. Patients on maintenance hemodialysis had lymphopenia with diminished numbers of both T4 + and T8 + T-lymphocytes. The T4/T8 ratios were within the normal range. Peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) showed a diminished proliferative response upon stimulation with concanavalin A, phytohemagglutinin and poke weed mitogen. When cell surface antigens were used for stimulation (mixed lymphocyte culture) uremic lymphocytes also showed a lower proliferation rate. Although…

Acute effects of dynamic stretching on mechanical properties result from both muscle-tendon stretching and muscle warm-up

2019

We investigated the acute effects of dynamic stretching on mechanical properties of plantar flexor muscles and tested the hypothesis that it would result from an interaction between muscle-tendon stretching and muscle warm-up. To test the stretching effect, dynamic stretching (DS) was compared to static stretching (SS). To test the warm-up effect, DS was compared to submaximal isometric muscle activity (SIMA) with similar contraction intensity. A control condition served as reference. These four conditioning activities were time matched (2×20s) and tested on separate days on 13 volunteers. Electrical neurostimulation was applied to investigate muscle mechanical properties (peak doublet torq…

Unexplained Elevated Serum Pancreatic Enzymes: A Reason to Suspect Celiac Disease

2006

BACKGROUND & AIMS: The frequency of elevated serum pancreatic enzymes in patients with celiac disease (CD) is unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the serum levels of pancreatic enzymes in CD patients. METHODS: Serum pancreatic isoamylase and lipase levels were assayed in 90 adult and 112 pediatric consecutive CD patients at diagnosis and after 12 months of gluten-free diet (GFD). Serum elastase and trypsin levels were assayed in a subgroup of adult CD patients. Pancreatic ultrasonography was also performed. RESULTS: Twenty-six adult (29%) and 29 pediatric (26%) CD patients exhibited elevated values of serum pancreatic amylase and/or lipase; trypsin was elevated in 69% and elastas…
