Screening and identification ofvipgenes inBacillus thuringiensisstrains
2009
Aims: To identify known vip genes and to detect potentially novel vip genes in a collection of 507 strains of Bacillus thuringiensis. Methods and Results: Following a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) strategy, four restriction patterns were found within the vip1 family: vip1Aa1, vip1Ba1/vip1Ba2 and vip1Ca. In the screening of vip2 genes, patterns similar to those of vip2Aa1, vip2Ba1/vip2Ba2 and vip2Ac1 genes were observed. Patterns for vip3Aa1, vip3Ae2 and vip3Af1 were found among vip3 genes. Two new patterns revealed novel vip1 and vip3A genes. The observed frequency of genes belonging to vip1 and vip2 families was around 10%, whereas 48·9% of…
Tracking of Television Viewing Time during Adulthood: The Young Finns Study.
2016
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the tracking of television viewing (TV) time as an indicator of sedentary behavior among adults for a period of 25 yr. Methods: A random sample of 1601 subjects (740 men) age 18, 21, and 24 yr participated in the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study in 1986. TV time during leisure time was measured with a single self-report question at baseline and in 2001, 2007, and 2011. Tracking of TV time was analyzed using Spearman rank correlations and simplex models. Level and change of TV time were examined using linear growth modeling. Results: The 4- and 6-yr integrated TV time stability coefficients, adjusted for measurement errors, were Q0.60…
A comprehensive fracture prevention strategy in older adults : The European union geriatric medicine society (EUGMS) statement
2016
Published also in Aging Clinical and Experimental Research, Vol.28, No.4, WOS: 000379034800030 Prevention of fragility fractures in older people has become a public health priority, although the most appropriate and cost-effective strategy remains unclear. In the present statement, the Interest group on falls and fracture prevention of the European union geriatric medicine society (EUGMS), in collaboration with the International association of gerontology and geriatrics for the European region (IAGG-ER), the European union of medical specialists (EUMS), the Fragility fracture network (FFN), the International osteoporosis foundation (IOF) - European society for clinical and economic aspects …
Social representations of latin american immigrants about immigration, care and elderly caregivers
2013
Ageing in Spain has increased considerably and elderly people often find themselves in a situation of great dependence. Facing this situation, many have had the support of immigrant caregivers from Latin America. This research had the purpose to know the social representations (SR) of these caregivers, living in Valencia (Spain), about immigration, care and elderly care. It involved the participation of 35 immigrants who responded the Word Association Test and a socio-demographic questionnaire. The results revealed that the SR on immigration reflect "nostalgia", care was represented by "help", and care for the elderly by "respect". It is concluded that the SR allow understanding the symboli…
Anti-HLA immunization of patients qualified for lung transplantation – Single center study
2021
For lung transplantation, the presence of donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies (DSA) is an important factor of antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) in its hyperacute, acute or chronic form during long-term follow up. The aim of the study was to assess the allosensitization of Polish patients qualified for a lung transplantation in our center. A retrospective study of 161 potential lung allograft recipients, also of 31 patients transplanted in the Uni-versity Hospital of Gdansk, between June 2018 and December 2020 were performed. 121 potential recipients were thoroughly tested for immunization status before eventual lung transplantation. SAB-testing, PRA-CDC and vPRA assessment, and HLA typing we…
Hsp70 localizes differently from chaperone Hsc70 in mouse mesoangioblasts under physiological growth conditions
2008
Mouse A6 mesoangioblasts express Hsp70 even in the absence of cellular stress. Its expression and its intracellular localization were investigated under normal growth conditions and under hyperthermic stress. Immunofluorescence assays indicated that without any stress a fraction of Hsp70 co-localized with actin microfilaments, in the cell cortex and in the contractile ring of dividing cells, while the Hsc70 chaperone did not. Hsp70 immunoprecipitation assays confirmed that a portion of Hsp70 binds actin. Immunoblot assays showed that both proteins were present in the nucleus. After heat treatment Hsp70 and actin continued to co-localize in the leading edge of A6 cells but not on microfilame…

The role of the human cytomegalovirus UL111A gene in down-regulating CD4+ T-cell recognition of latently infected cells: implications for virus elimi…
2009
AbstractThe capacity of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) to establish and maintain a latent infection from which it can later reactivate ensures its widespread distribution in the population, but the mechanisms enabling maintenance of latency in the face of a robust immune system are poorly understood. We examined the role of the HCMV UL111A gene, which encodes homologs of the immunosuppressive cytokine interleukin-10 in the context of latent infection of myeloid progenitor cells. A UL111A deletion virus was able to establish, maintain, and reactivate from experimental latency in a manner comparable with parental virus, but major histocompatibility complex class II levels increased significantl…
