Multimodal disinformation about otherness on the internet : the spread of racist, xenophobic and Islamophobic fake news in 2020
2021
This work studies the use of disinformation to construct an image of otherness through the internet. We applied a content analysis methodology to the 161 racist, xenophobic or Islamophobic fake news pieces that were discredited in 2020 by the four Spanish information verification media entities accredited by the International Fact-Checking Network: Maldita.es , Newtral , Efe Verifica and Verificat . The results show that the most commonly used formats were image and video, that disinformation was most often based on taking information out of context and deception, and that the source could not be identified. The most shared characteristics associated otherness with receiving aid, violence a…
DiDuSoNet: A P2P architecture for Ditributed Dunbar-based Social Networks,
2015

Distributed Online Social Networks (DOSNs) are OSNs which do not exploit a central server for storing users data and enable users to have more control on their profile content, ensuring a higher level of privacy. In this paper we propose DiDuSoNet, a novel P2P Distributed Online Social Network where users can exercise full access control on their data. Our system exploits trust relationships for providing a set of important social services, such as trustness, informati…

From the mouth to digital spaces : mediatization and spectacularization of the political “petites phrases”
2023
The political “petites phrases” seems to occupy a growing place in the newspapers and social media. The development of web 2.0 and digital social networks have boosted this political-media phenomenon that was born in the 1970s, thanks to new formats of televised debates. Our study, based on the initial work of Krieg-Planque (2011) and Maingueneau (2012), aims to analyse specific processes and devices accompanying the reproduction of these fragments of political speech on digital social networks. To this end, we will return to the way in which “petites phrases” are detached and put into circulation, as well as to the media devices aimed at putting into spectacle and reinforcing their polemic…

A prospective study on an innovative online forum for peer reviewing of surgical science
2017
Background Peer review is important to the scientific process. However, the present system has been criticised and accused of bias, lack of transparency, failure to detect significant breakthrough and error. At the British Journal of Surgery (BJS), after surveying authors' and reviewers' opinions on peer review, we piloted an open online forum with the aim of improving the peer review process. Methods In December 2014, a web-based survey assessing attitudes towards open online review was sent to reviewers with a BJS account in Scholar One. From April to June 2015, authors were invited to allow their manuscripts to undergo online peer review in addition to the standard peer review process. T…
