Solid-state compatibility of Ca:LaNbO4 with perovskite cathodes: Evidences from X-ray microspectroscopy

2022

The solid-state compatibility between calcium-doped lanthanum niobate and three perovskite cathode materials was investigated using two X-ray microbeam techniques, micro X-ray fluorescence and micro X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The cathode powders (lanthanum strontium ferrite, either cobalt or copper-doped, and lanthanum strontium cobaltite) in contact with the dense electrolyte pellet were annealed at 1150 degrees C for 12-144 h to simulate the effect of thermal stresses due to fabrication and long-term operation. As a result, several interdiffusion phenomena were then observed on the bilayer cross-sections: in particular, the chemical state and coordination environment of calcium, iron,…

Cation Diffusion and Segregation at the Interface between Samarium-Doped Ceria and LSCF or LSFCu Cathodes Investigated with X-ray Microspectroscopy

2017

The chemical compatibility between electrolytes and electrodes is an extremely important aspect governing the overall impedance of solid-oxide cells. Because these devices work at elevated temperatures, they are especially prone to cation interdiffusion between the cell components, possibly resulting in secondary insulating phases. In this work, we applied X-ray microspectroscopy to study the interface between a samarium-doped ceria (SDC) electrolyte and lanthanum ferrite cathodes (La0.4Sr0.6Fe0.8Cu0.2O3(LSFCu); La0.9Sr0.1Fe0.85Co0.15O3(LSCF)), at a submicrometric level. This technique allows to combine the information about the diffusion profiles of cations on the scale of several micromet…

The Process of CEO Dismissal: An Exploratory study

2018

The decision to change the CEO is one of the most important decisions of the Board of Directors in a company. This study increases understanding of the process that leads to a Board’s decision to dismiss the CEO under conditions of poor performance, and of the meaning of attributions in CEO dismissal. The role of the Chair of the Board in this process is also explored. An exploratory, empirical study concerning nine CEO dismissal processes is conducted based on open-ended interviews with seven Chairpersons of the Board. The findings shed light on the issues that impact the relationship between poor company performance and CEO dismissal. In particular, the results increase understanding of t…

Engaging Citizens in the Decision-Making Process

2019

The rapid development of internet and technologies in the 21th century is providing an opportunity for the development of digital democracy – citizen engagement in the decision-making process in an easier, faster and more contemporary way. The paper analysis Latvian public administration’s attitude to the development of digital democracy in Latvia, looking into digital engagement as a possible solution that could foster the low rates of civic and political participation in Latvia. Research methods of the paper consists of an analysis of academic publications on digital democracy and political engagement, and survey to the representatives of the public administration in Latvia. Conclusions o…

Attractor as a convex combination of a set of attractors

2021

This paper presents an effective approach to constructing numerical attractors of a general class of continuous homogenous dynamical systems: decomposing an attractor as a convex combination of a set of other existing attractors. For this purpose, the convergent Parameter Switching (PS) numerical method is used to integrate the underlying dynamical system. The method is built on a convergent fixed step-size numerical method for ODEs. The paper shows that the PS algorithm, incorporating two binary operations, can be used to approximate any numerical attractor via a convex combination of some existing attractors. Several examples are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.…

Bijural services as factors of production

2005

This study is primarily concerned with the security of transactions and contracts in contexts in which there is more than one legal system - in bijural (or multijural) societies - and with the contribution that bijural lawyers can make to the security of transactions and contracts, that is with the productivity of bijural lawyers. It is, as a consequence, focused on the demand for bijurallawyers as factor inputs in the production of contractual security and, at one remove, transaction security.1 To be in a position to proceed with this analysis, certain basic concepts must be clarified and the domain of the inquiry delineated. We devote the Introduction to these tasks.(...)

Predictive control of convex polyhedron LPV systems with Markov jumping parameters

2012

The problem of receding horizon predictive control of stochastic linear parameter varying systems is discussed. First, constant coefficient matrices are obtained at each vertex in the interior of linear parameter varying system, and then, by considering semi-definite programming constraints, weight coefficients between each vertex are calculated, and the equal coefficients matrices for the time variable system are obtained. Second, in the given receding horizon, for each mode sequence of the stochastic convex polyhedron linear parameter varying systems, the optimal control input sequences are designed in order to make the states into a terminal invariant set. Outside of the receding horizon…

Protecting the besieged cyber fortress : Russia’s response to cyber threats

2019

The Information Security Doctrine of the Russian Federation (RF) defines the threat to information security as a complex of actions and factors that represent a danger to Russia in the information space. These threats can be information-psychological (i.e., when the adversary tries to influence a person’s mind) or information-technical (i.e., when the object of influence is the information infrastructure). The information infrastructure of the RF is a combination of information systems, websites, and communication networks located in the territory of the RF, or those used as part of international treaties signed by the RF. A cyber threat is an illegal penetration or threat of penetration by…

Data-Driven Interactive Multiobjective Optimization Using a Cluster-Based Surrogate in a Discrete Decision Space

2019

In this paper, a clustering based surrogate is proposed to be used in offline data-driven multiobjective optimization to reduce the size of the optimization problem in the decision space. The surrogate is combined with an interactive multiobjective optimization approach and it is applied to forest management planning with promising results. peerReviewed
