This article analyses Margarethe von Trotta’s film Hannah Arendt: The Woman Who Saw Banality in Evil through its protagonist’s own writings on visual culture, visibility and invisibility in the context of political thinking. We start by clarifying Arendt’s understanding of political theory as an activity aiming to provoke thinking. We then discuss systematically the visual language of the film and offer a typology of its representations of political thinking, subdivided into a part on internalisation and one on externalisation (dialogue). This article analyses the role of affect and emotions in Finland’s first large-scale anti-deportation protest, the 2017 Right to Live protest in Helsinki. Despite deportation protests having recently gained scholarly attention, their emotional dimensions have not been sufficiently studied, especially as concerns the emotions of protestors with vulnerable legal status. This article is based on in-depth interviews with key activists in the anti-deportation protest network in Finland, including asylum seekers, refugees and Finnish citizens. Anomalous soil CO 2 degassing in relation to faults and eruptive fissures on Mount Etna (Sicily, Italy)

The relationships between soil gas emissions and both tectonic and volcano-tectonic structures on Mt. Etna have been studied. The investigation consisted of soil CO2 flux measurements along traverses orthogonal to the main faults and eruptive fissures of the volcano. Anomalous levels of soil degassing were found mainly in coincidence with faults, whereas only 49% of the eruptive fissures were found to produce elevated CO2 soil fluxes. This result suggests that only zones of strain are able to channel deep gases to the surface. According to this hypothesis, several previously unknown structures are suggested. Characterization of ellipsoids through an overdetermined boundary value problem of Monge–Ampère type

Abstract The study of the optimal constant in an Hessian-type Sobolev inequality leads to a fully nonlinear boundary value problem, overdetermined with non-standard boundary conditions. We show that all the solutions have ellipsoidal symmetry. In the proof we use the maximum principle applied to a suitable auxiliary function in conjunction with an entropy estimate from affine curvature flow.

Abstract A commercially available mixed culture of Spirulina spp. exhibited a remarkable ability to degrade the widely used organophosphorus herbicide glyphosate, that served as sole source of either phosphorus or nitrogen for cyanobacterial growth. 31P NMR analysis of spent media appeared to be an effective and simple technique to follow disappearance of the phosphonate and release of inorganic phosphate in biodegradation process(es).

The title compound, C27H33NO5, obtained from diethyl ether, crystallizes in space group P2(1) with four molecules in the asymmetric unit. The dioxinone and imide rings are almost planar, whereas the cyclohexane and cyclohexene rings form distorted conformations. The crystal structure confirms an earlier proposal about the stereoselectivity of Diels - Alder reactions to spirocyclic chiral 1,3- dienes.
