Spatial Cognition 2020/1: Book of abstracts : August 2-4, 2021, University of Latvia
2021
Spatial Cognition is concerned with the acquisition, development, representation, organization, and use of knowledge about spatial objects in real, virtual or hybrid environments and processed by human or artificial agents. Spatial Cognition includes research from different fields insofar as they are concerned with cognitive agents and space, such as cognitive and developmental psychology, linguistics, computer science, geography, cartography, philosophy, neuroscience, and education. Research issues in the field range from the investigation of human spatial cognition to mobile robot navigation, including topics such as wayfinding, spatial planning, spatial learning, internal and external re…
SPACE FLIGHT AND LOSS OF STRENGTH IN UPPER LIMB MUSCLES
2008
Central Neural Blocks
1988
The spinal column consists of vertebral bodies which together form 7 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral, and 4 coccygeal vertebrae (see Transparency 1). A typical vertebra consists of two basic parts: the ventral vertebral body and the dorsal vertebral arch. Between the vertebral bodies are the intervertebral disks, which give the spinal column its flexibility. Together, the vertebral bodies and the intervertebral disks form a strong column supporting the head and trunk, while the vertebral arch protects the spinal cord. When the spinal column is viewed from the side, four flexures are visible: the thoracic and the sacrococcygeal flexures are concave ventrally, while the cervical and…
Leukodiapedesis and leukocyte migration in the leptomeninges and in the subarachnoid space.
1981
Pleocytosis in cerebrospinal fluid and infiltration of the leptomeningeal tissue have been studied after injection of ferritin into the subarachnoid space (SAS) of cats. The most important source of granulocytes in the leptomeninges are the relatively large veins of the pia mater, which have very thin walls. Passing between the lining cells of the pia mater the granulocytes leave the connective tissue space of the pia mater and reach the SAS. Leukodiapedesis has also been observed in veins crossing the SAS. During this process, gaps between the lining cells of the perivascular leptomeningeal sheath may develop. There are two possible ways for the granulocytes to pass from the vascular pia m…
Case series of fluoroscopic findings and 3D reconstruction of human spinal MRIs of the space of Okada.
2020
Objective To better understand the unexpected spread of contrast medium observed by conventional fluoroscopic X-ray images during standard neuraxial techniques used in the treatment of pain. The support of 3D reconstruction of MRI images of structures within the lumbar spine was used to better understand the space of Okada. Methods Lumbar facet joint and epidural corticosteroid injections in five patients under fluoroscopic guidance with loss of resistance to air or saline to identify the facet joints or epidural space. Next, in a retrospective study, the authors examined the retrodural space of Okada and the neighboring tissues with 3D reconstruction of spinal MRIs of seven patients withou…
Anatomy of the Sacral Roots and the Pelvic Splanchnic Nerves in Women Using the LANN Technique
2007
AIMS: To report on our anatomic and electrophysiologic findings about the sacral nerve roots and the pelvic splanchnic nerves during laparoscopic pelvic surgery. METHODS: The pelvic splanchnic nerves and the sacral nerve roots were dissected in 336 consecutive patients undergoing laparoscopy for pelvic pain syndrome or gynecologic diseases. Intraoperative assessment of the functionality of the exposed nerves was performed using the LAparoscopic Neuro-Navigation (LANN) technique. RESULTS: Dissection of the sacral roots and the splanchnic pelvic nerves lateral to the sacral hypogastric fascia was feasible without any complications in all patients in this series. The mean surgical time was 16 …
Ritz Solution for Transient Analysis of Variable-Stiffness Shell Structures
2020
The dynamic response of thin-walled structures is driven by mass and stiffness distribution. As such, variable-stiffness (VS) composites offer opportunities to tune structural dynamic responses. To this extent, efficient analysis tools become increasingly important for structural analysis and design purposes. In this work, an efficient and versatile Ritz method for free vibrations and linear transient analysis of VS doubly curved shell structures is presented. VS shell structures are modeled as an assembly of shell-like domains. The shell kinematics is based on the first-order shear deformation theory, and no further assumption is made on the shallowness or on the thinness of the structure.…
LA "MACCHINA MUSEALE" PER LA RIQUALIFICAZIONE E LA VALORIZZAZIONE DEL CENTRO DI LEONFORTE
2005
2016
The life and career of Sixto Rodríguez, the American folk-singer born in Detroit in 1942, weave together two different places. On the one hand, we find Detroit where at the turn of the Sixties Rodríguez recorded two albums without success. On the other, there is Cape Town where unknown to Rodríguez his music became very influential and its subversive contents found an unexpected space of resonance. This paper aims at investigating the double geography emerging from this astonishing musical biography. The analysis will focus on the complex relationship between musical practices and spatial formations, examining how power geometries shape and carve the field of their mutual production. If the…
