From quantale algebroids to topological spaces: Fixed- and variable-basis approaches

2010

Using the category of quantale algebroids the paper considers a generalization of the classical Papert-Papert-Isbell adjunction between the categories of topological spaces and locales to partial algebraic structures. It also provides a single framework in which to treat the concepts of quasi, standard and stratified fuzzy topology.

Best proximity points: Convergence and existence theorems for p-cyclic mappings

2010

Abstract We introduce a new class of mappings, called p -cyclic φ -contractions, which contains the p -cyclic contraction mappings as a subclass. Then, convergence and existence results of best proximity points for p -cyclic φ -contraction mappings are obtained. Moreover, we prove results of the existence of best proximity points in a reflexive Banach space. These results are generalizations of the results of Al-Thagafi and Shahzad (2009) [8] .

Multi-valued F-contractions and the solution of certain functional and integral equations

2013

Wardowski [Fixed Point Theory Appl., 2012:94] introduced a new concept of contraction and proved a fixed point theorem which generalizes Banach contraction principle. Following this direction of research, we will present some fixed point results for closed multi-valued F-contractions or multi-valued mappings which satisfy an F-contractive condition of Hardy-Rogers-type, in the setting of complete metric spaces or complete ordered metric spaces. An example and two applications, for the solution of certain functional and integral equations, are given to illustrate the usability of the obtained results.

Fixed point for cyclic weak (\psi, C)-contractions in 0-complete partial metric spaces

2013

In this paper, following (W.A. Kirk, P.S. Srinivasan, P. Veeramani, Fixed points for mappings satisfying cyclical contractive conditions, Fixed Point Theory, 4 (2003), 79-89), we give a fixed point result for cyclic weak (ψ,C)-contractions on partial metric space. A Maia type fixed point theorem for cyclic weak (ψ,C)-contractions is also given.

Operators in Rigged Hilbert spaces: some spectral properties

2014

A notion of resolvent set for an operator acting in a rigged Hilbert space $\D \subset \H\subset \D^\times$ is proposed. This set depends on a family of intermediate locally convex spaces living between $\D$ and $\D^\times$, called interspaces. Some properties of the resolvent set and of the corresponding multivalued resolvent function are derived and some examples are discussed.

Geometric Properties of Planar BV -Extension Domains

2009

We investigate geometric properties of those planar domains that are extension for functions with bounded variation. We start from a characterization of such domains given by Burago–Maz'ya and prove that a bounded, simply connected domain is a BV -extension domain if and only if its com- plement is quasiconvex. We further prove that the extension property is a bi-Lipschitz invariant and give applications to Sobolev extension domains.

Enumeration of L-convex polyominoes by rows and columns

2005

In this paper, we consider the class of L-convex polyominoes, i.e. the convex polyominoes in which any two cells can be connected by a path of cells in the polyomino that switches direction between the vertical and the horizontal at most once.Using the ECO method, we prove that the number fn of L-convex polyominoes with perimeter 2(n + 2) satisfies the rational recurrence relation fn = 4fn-1 - 2fn-2, with f0 = 1, f1 = 2, f2 = 7. Moreover, we give a combinatorial interpretation of this statement. In the last section, we present some open problems.

Caristi Type Selections of Multivalued Mappings

2015

Multivalued mappings and related selection theorems are fundamental tools in many branches of mathematics and applied sciences. In this paper we continue this theory and prove the existence of Caristi type selections for generalized multivalued contractions on complete metric spaces, by using some classes of functions. Also we prove fixed point and quasi-fixed point theorems.

(p,q)-summing sequences

2002

Abstract A sequence (x j ) in a Banach space X is (p,q) -summing if for any weakly q -summable sequence (x j ∗ ) in the dual space we get a p -summable sequence of scalars (x j ∗ (x j )) . We consider the spaces formed by these sequences, relating them to the theory of (p,q) -summing operators. We give a characterization of the case p=1 in terms of integral operators, and show how these spaces are relevant for a general question on Banach spaces and their duals, in connection with Grothendieck theorem.

Countably compact weakly Whyburn spaces

2015

The weak Whyburn property is a generalization of the classical sequential property that was studied by many authors. A space X is weakly Whyburn if for every non-closed set \({A \subset X}\) there is a subset \({B \subset A}\) such that \({\overline{B} \setminus A}\) is a singleton. We prove that every countably compact Urysohn space of cardinality smaller than the continuum is weakly Whyburn and show that, consistently, the Urysohn assumption is essential. We also give conditions for a (countably compact) weakly Whyburn space to be pseudoradial and construct a countably compact weakly Whyburn non-pseudoradial regular space, which solves a question asked by Angelo Bella in private communica…
