Analiza składników zmiany (ang. shift-share analysis) jest popularną techniką analizy gospodarek regionalnych. Mankamentem klasycznej analizy zmian strukturalnych jest to, że nie uwzględnia ona relacji pomiędzy konkurencyjnością a efektem zmian strukturalnych. Esteban - Marquillas w 1972 roku zaproponował zmianę klasycznego równania shift- share, wprowadzając kategorię homotetyczną badanego zjawiska, co pozwoliło na uwzględnienie efektu konkurencyjności oraz powiązań między poszczególnymi składowymi.
