Reticulate evolution can be a major driver of diversification into new niches, especially in disturbed habitats and at the edges of ranges. Industrial fermentation strains of yeast provide a window into these processes, but progress has been hampered by a limited understanding of the natural diversity and distribution of Saccharomyces species and populations. For example, lager beer is brewed with Saccharomyces pastorianus, an alloploid hybrid of S. cerevisiae and S. eubayanus, a species only recently discovered in Patagonia, Argentina. Monogonont rotifers are cyclical parthenogens livingin limnic habitats with considerable seasonalvariation and often with island-like features. Theoccurrence of bisexual reproduction in these organismsmakes it feasible to define ’fields for generecombination‘, i.e. biological species. Interaction of UO2(2+) with ATP in aqueous ionic media.

Interaction of dioxouranium(VI) (uranyl) ion with ATP was studied by ligand/proton and metal/hydroxide displacement technique, at very low ionic strength and at I=0.15 mol L(-1), in aqueous Me4NCl and NaCl solutions, at t=25 degrees C. Measurements were carried out in the pH range 3-8.5, before the formation of precipitate. The delimitation of cryptic species within the genus Lymnaea, which are the main vectors of fascioliasis, remains a topic of controversy. An analysis of genetic variability based on 12 enzyme loci revealed different fixed alleles at 9 loci between two sympatric samples of Lymnaea viatrix at the type locality in Lima, Peru. The absence of heterozygotes within this locality indicates the presence of isolated populations or cryptic species within L. viatrix.
