On the critical behavior for inhomogeneous wave inequalities with Hardy potential in an exterior domain

2021

Abstract We study the wave inequality with a Hardy potential ∂ t t u − Δ u + λ | x | 2 u ≥ | u | p in  ( 0 , ∞ ) × Ω , $$\begin{array}{} \displaystyle \partial_{tt}u-{\it\Delta} u+\frac{\lambda}{|x|^2}u\geq |u|^p\quad \mbox{in } (0,\infty)\times {\it\Omega}, \end{array}$$ where Ω is the exterior of the unit ball in ℝ N , N ≥ 2, p > 1, and λ ≥ − N − 2 2 2 $\begin{array}{} \displaystyle \left(\frac{N-2}{2}\right)^2 \end{array}$ , under the inhomogeneous boundary condition α ∂ u ∂ ν ( t , x ) + β u ( t , x ) ≥ w ( x ) on  ( 0 , ∞ ) × ∂ Ω , $$\begin{array}{} \displaystyle \alpha \frac{\partial u}{\partial \nu}(t,x)+\beta u(t,x)\geq w(x)\quad\mbox{on } (0,\infty)\times \partial{\it\Omega}, \e…

Structure of the Odd-A, Shell-Stabilized NucleusNo102253

2005

In-beam {gamma}-ray spectroscopic measurements have been made on {sub 102}{sup 253}No. A single rotational band was identified up to a probable spin of 39/2({Dirac_h}/2{pi}), which is assigned to the 7/2{sup +}[624] Nilsson configuration. The bandhead energy and the moment of inertia provide discriminating tests of contemporary models of the heaviest nuclei. Novel methods were required to interpret the sparse data set associated with cross sections of around 50 nb. These methods included comparisons of experimental and simulated spectra, as well as testing for evidence of a rotational band in the {gamma}{gamma} matrix.

Regularities of Line Strengths in Spectra of NI, FI, and NeII

1998

Recently experimentally determined individual (fine structure) line strengths for the spectra of NI, FI, and NeII are analysed, searching for regu- larities resulting from similarities in the structure of these species. Strengths of spectral lines of the prominent 3S-3p and 3p-3d transition arrays are investigated. The absolute scales of these experimentally derived data are based on independently determined lifetimes for excited levels of NI, FI, and NeII. The simple Coulomb approximation method was applied for calcula- tions of the matrix elements for the "jumping" electron in order to obtain an average trend in line strengths of the studied emitters. In the case of the isoelectronic spec…

Digital simulation of wind field velocity

1998

Abstract In this paper some computational aspects on the generation procedure of n -variate wind velocity vectors are discussed in detail. Decompositions of the power spectral density matrix are also discussed showing the physical significance of eigenquantities of this matrix.

Light polarization measurements in tests of macrorealism

2018

According to the world view of macrorealism, the properties of a given system exist prior to and independent of measurement, which is incompatible with quantum mechanics. Leggett and Garg put forward a practical criterion capable of identifying violations of macrorealism, and so far experiments performed on microscopic and mesoscopic systems have always ruled out in favor of quantum mechanics. However, a macrorealist can always assign the cause of such violations to the perturbation that measurements effect on such small systems, and hence a definitive test would require using non-invasive measurements, preferably on macroscopic objects, where such measurements seem more plausible. However,…

A deep catalogue of classical Be stars in the direction of the Perseus Arm: spectral types and interstellar reddenings

2014

We present a catalogue of 247 photometrically and spectroscopically confirmed fainter classical Be stars (13 < r < 16) in the direction of the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way (-1 < b < +4, 120 < l < 140). The catalogue consists of 181 IPHAS-selected new classical Be stars, in addition to 66 objects that were studied by Raddi et al. (2013) more closely, and 3 stars identified as classical Be stars in earlier work. This study more than doubles the number known in the region. Photometry spanning 0.6 to 5 micron, spectral types, and interstellar reddenings are given for each object. The spectral types were determined from low-resolution spectra (lambda / Delta-lambda ~ 800-2000),…

On the metal abundances inside mixed-morphology supernova remnants: the case of IC 443  and G166.0+4.3

2009

Recent developments on the study of mixed morphology supernova remnants (MMSNRs) have revealed the presence of metal rich X-ray emitting plasma inside a fraction of these remnant, a feature not properly addressed by traditional models for these objects. Radial profiles of thermodynamical and chemical parameters are needed for a fruitful comparison of data and model of MMSNRs, but these are available only in a few cases. We analyze XMM-Newton data of two MMSNRs, namely IC443 and G166.0+4.3, previously known to have solar metal abundances, and we perform spatially resolved spectral analysis of the X-ray emission. We detected enhanced abundances of Ne, Mg and Si in the hard X-ray bright peak i…

Multimode emission in inhomogeneously broadened ring lasers

2001

The threshold for multilongitudinal-mode emission in inhomogeneously broadened ring lasers is analytically investigated. In the homogeneous limit the multimode instability corresponds to the classical Risken–Nummedal–Graham–Haken instability. It is found that by increasing the inhomogeneous linewidth, the instability threshold is decreased and the growth of high-frequency side modes is favored. In the limit where the population-inversion decay rate γ‖ is much smaller than the polarization decay rate γ⊥ (class B lasers), analytical expressions for the instability threshold are found, which are then generalized to three-level lasers for a comparison with experimental results obtained with erb…
