Statistical quantities in particle collisions

Abstract Statistical quantities for particle collisions are defined using the analogy between the phase-space integral in multiparticle collisions and that in relativistic quantum statistical mechanics. The analogs of thermodynamic quantities are computed for the uncorrelated jet model. A relativistic derivation for the mass spectrum of hadrons is given and thermodynamic quantities are calculated for a system with this spectrum.

Future CMB Constraints on Early, Cold, or Stressed Dark Energy

We investigate future constraints on early dark energy (EDE) achievable by the Planck and CMBPol experiments, including cosmic microwave background (CMB) lensing. For the dark energy, we include the possibility of clustering through a sound speed c_s^2 <1 (cold dark energy) and anisotropic stresses parameterized with a viscosity parameter c_vis^2. We discuss the degeneracies between cosmological parameters and EDE parameters. In particular we show that the presence of anisotropic stresses in EDE models can substantially undermine the determination of the EDE sound speed parameter c_s^2. The constraints on EDE primordial energy density are however unaffected. We also calculate the future …

The decay scheme of the 3-s Isomer of100Nb and the properties of levels in100Mo

Theβ− decay of the longer-lived isomer in100Nb has been studied at the fission-product separator JOSEF. Measurements ofγ-ray singles spectra, ofγ-γ coincidences and ofγ-γ angular correlations have been performed. A value oft1/2=2.99(11)s has been determined for the isomer which probably hasIπ=4+ or 5+. A scheme of the levels of100Mo which are populated in the decay of this isomer has been established. Information on the spins of several states of100Mo has been obtained. Thus,I=0 levels have been identified at 1,505, 2,038 and 2,087 keV. The mixing ratios have been determined for the 22+→21+ and 23+→21+ transitions. MQPM description of the structure and beta decays of the odd Mo and Tc isotopes

The odd-mass isotopes A=95,97 of molybdenum are of interest for neutrino-physics applications. The microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model (MQPM) is used to calculate energy and decay characteristics of these nuclei and their beta-decay partners (Tc95 and Tc97). A realistic single-particle valence space and two-body interaction are used in the calculations. The computed results are compared with available data. The obtained energy spectra are also compared with earlier calculations. We present the first ever calculations for the rates of allowed and forbidden β+/EC decay transitions in these nuclei. In general our computed numbers agree rather well with the available data.

Cranked Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov Theory: probing the gateway to superheavy nuclei

The cranked relativistic Hartree+Bogoliubov theory has been applied for a systematic study of the nuclei around 254No, the heaviest elements for which detailed spectroscopic data are available. The deformation, rotational response, pairing correlations, quasi-particle and other properties of these nuclei have been studied with different parametrizations for the effective mean-field Lagrangian. Pairing correlations are taken into account by a finite range two-body force of Gogny type. While the deformation properties are well reproduced, the calculations reveal some deficiencies of the effective forces both in the particle-hole and particle-particle channels. Decay properties of very-high-spin states in transitional Er nuclei aroundA=154

Theγ ray continuum structures of the transitional Er isotopes withA∼154 are studied using the reaction74Ge(84Kr,xn)158−xEr atElab=340 MeV. The measurements include energy spectra, total energies, multiplicities, angular distributions and lifetimes using the DSAM method. The analysis of data confirms the previously observed two-bump structure of the continuum radiation. A meticulous subtraction of discrete contributions proves the persistence of the low-energy bump even at high spins, i.e.I>40ħ. Transverse Spectra of Hadrons in Central $AA$ Collisions at RHIC and LHC from pQCD+Saturation+Hydrodynamics and from pQCD+Energy Losses

We study the transverse spectra of hadrons in nearly central $AA$ collisions at RHIC and LHC in a broad transverse momentum range Low-$p_T$ spectra are calculated by using boost-invariant hydrodynamics with initial energy and net-baryon densities from the EKRT pQCD+saturation model. High-$p_T$ spectra are obtained from pQCD jet calculation including the energy loss of the parton in the matter prior to its fragmentation to final hadrons.

Systematics of parton-medium interaction from RHIC to LHC

Despite a wealth of experimental data for high-P_T processes in heavy-ion collisions, discriminating between different models of hard parton-medium interactions has been difficult. A key reason is that the pQCD parton spectrum at RHIC is falling so steeply that distinguishing even a moderate shift in parton energy from complete parton absorption is essentially impossible. In essence, energy loss models are effectively only probed in the vicinity of zero energy loss and, as a result, at RHIC energies only the pathlength dependence of energy loss offers some discriminating power. Dependence of lepton pair emission on EoS and initial state

We present results from a hydrodynamic calculation for thermal emission of lepton pairs in central lead-lead collisions at the CERN SPS energy. Dependence of the emission on the initial conditions and Equation of State (EoS) is considered and the spectra are compared with CERES data and calculated distribution of Drell--Yan pairs.

Sensitivity of electromagnetic spectra to equation of state and initial energy density in the Pb+Pb collisions at SPS

We study Pb+Pb collisions at 158 A GeV/c using a hydrodynamical approach. We test different equations of state (EoSs) and different initial conditions and show that there are more than one initial state for each EoS which reproduce the observed hadronic spectra. We also find that different equations of state favour different freeze-out temperature. Simultaneously we calculate the thermal dilepton and photon spectra for each EoS and initial state. We compare the dilepton mass spectrum to data measured by the CERES collaboration and find that the differences in spectra obtained using different EoSs and initial states are not resolvable within the current experimental resolution.
