Nuclear mean-square charge radii of63,64,66,68−82Ga nuclei: No anomalous behavior atN=32

2012

Collinear laser spectroscopy was performed on the ${}^{63,64,66,68\ensuremath{-}82}$Ga isotopes with neutron numbers from $N=32$ to $N=51$. These measurements were carried out at the ISOLDE radioactive ion beam facility at CERN. Here we present the nuclear mean-square charge radii extracted from the isotope shifts and, for the lighter isotopes, new spin and moment values. New ground-state nuclear spin and moments were extracted from the hyperfine spectra of ${}^{63,70}$Ga, measured on an atomic transition in the neutral atom. The ground-state spin of ${}^{63}$Ga is determined to be $I=3/2$. Analysis of the trend in the change in mean-square charge radii of the gallium isotopes demonstrates …

Charge radius change in the heavy tin isotopes until A = 132 from laser spectroscopy

2001

Laser spectroscopy measurements have been carried out on the very neutron-rich tin isotopes with the COMPLIS experimental setup. Using the 5s 25p 23P 0 → 5s 25p6s 3P 1 optical transition, hyperfine spectra of 126-132Sn and 125m, 127m, 129m-131mSn where recorded for the first time. The variation of the mean-square charge radius ( δ〈r 2〉) between these nuclei and nuclear moments of the isomers and the odd isotopes were thus measured. An odd-even staggering which inverts at A = 130 is clearly observed. This indicates a small appearance of a plateau on the δ〈r 2〉 which has to be confirmed by measuring the isotope shift beyond A = 132.

Radioactive decay of 217Pa

2002

The radioactive decay of 217Pa was investigated by means of α-γ-spectroscopy. Fine structure in the ground-state α-decay was established. Ambiguities in the fine structure of the α-decay of the previously known isomeric state could be clarified by α-γ-coincidence measurements. A previously unknown α-transition of Eα = (8306 ± 5) keV was detected and identified by means of delayed α-α- and α-γ-γ-coincidence measurements. A second isomeric state decaying by α-emission was not observed. The quality of the previously reported data of the α-decay fine structure of 217Th was improved.

Electron-transporter spectrometer for on-line isotope separator

1991

Abstract ELLJ — a conversion-electron and beta-ray spectrometer for an on-line isotope separator - is described. The instrument is a broad-range, high-transmission device consisting of a two-coil magnetic transporter plus a cooled Si(Li) detector. The spectrometer was designed to perform several kinds of coincidence measurements. A number of representative spectra of fission-product activities separated on-line at the IGISOL facility demonstrate the performance of the spectrometer.

Measurement of charged jet production cross sections and nuclear modification in p–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV

2015

Charged jet production cross sections in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV measured with the ALICE detector at the LHC are presented. Using the anti-kT algorithm, jets have been reconstructed in the central rapidity region from charged particles with resolution parameters R = 0.2 and R = 0.4. The reconstructed jets have been corrected for detector effects and the underlying event background. To calculate the nuclear modification factor, RpPb, of charged jets in p–Pb collisions, a pp reference was constructed by scaling previously measured charged jet spectra at √s = 7 TeV. In the transverse momentum range 20 ≤ pT, ch jet ≤ 120 GeV/c, RpPb is found to be consistent with unity, indicating th…

Non-zero chemical potential and the shape of the pT-distribution of hadrons in heavy-ion collisions

1990

Abstract The pT-spectra of negative particles from 200 GeV/nucleon O + Au and S + S collisions, measured at CERN by the NA35 collaboration, are fitted by a thermal distribution of massive pions which are strongly out of chemcial equilibrium. Both sets of data are consistent with the same values of temperature and chemical potential, T ≈ 165 MeV and μ ≈ 120 MeV. The low pT behaviour of the measured spectra seems to indicate that the transverse flow in these collisions is not strong.

Precision measurement of the conversion electron spectrum of 83mKr with a solenoid retarding spectrometer

1992

This paper reports on precision measurements of conversion lines in the decay of 83mKr with nuclear transition energies of 32.1 keV and 9.4 keV, respectively. The spectra were taken from a submonolayer surface of 83mKr frozen onto a cold backing, using the new Mainz solenoid retarding spectrometer. The high luminosity and resolution of this instrument enables the observation of all allowed conversion lines up to the N-shell and to fully separate the elastic component from inelastic satellites. The combined analysis of the data yields the transition energies Ey=32151.5±1.1 eV and 9405.9±0.8 eV, respectively. The experiment served also to pilot the application of this spectrometer to the ques…

Charge-radius change and nuclear moments in the heavy tin isotopes from laser spectroscopy: Charge radius ofSn132

2005

Laser spectroscopy measurements have been carried out on the neutron-rich tin isotopes with the COMPLIS experimental setup. Using the $5{s}^{2}5{p}^{2\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}3}{P}_{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}5{s}^{2}5p6s\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}{}^{3}{P}_{1}$ optical transition, hyperfine spectra of $^{126\ensuremath{-}132}\mathrm{Sn}$ and $^{125,127,129\ensuremath{-}131}\mathrm{Sn}{}^{m}$ were recorded for the first time. The nuclear moments and the mean square charge radius variation ($\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\langle}{r}_{c}^{2}\ensuremath{\rangle}$) were extracted. From the quadrupole moment values, these nuclei appear to be spherical. The magnetic moments measured are thus co…

Large Odd-even Radius Staggering In The Very Light Platinum Isotopes From Laser Spectroscopy

1999

Laser spectroscopy measurements have been carried out on very-neutron-deficient platinum isotopes with the COMPLIS experimental setup. Using the ${5d}^{9}{6s}^{3}{D}_{3}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{5d}^{9}{6p}^{3}{P}_{2}$ optical transition, hyperfine spectra of ${}^{182,181,180,179,178}\mathrm{Pt}$ and ${}^{183}{\mathrm{Pt}}^{m}$ were recorded for the first time. The variation of the mean square charge radius between these nuclei, the magnetic moments of the odd isotopes, and the quadrupole moment of ${}^{183}{\mathrm{Pt}}^{m}$ were thus measured. A large deformation change between ${}^{183}{\mathrm{Pt}}^{g}$ and ${}^{183}{\mathrm{Pt}}^{m},$ an odd-even staggering of the charge radius, and a d…

Multiplicity dependence of K*(892)0 and ϕ(1020) production in pp collisions at s=13 TeV

2020

The striking similarities that have been observed between high-multiplicity proton-proton (pp) collisions and heavy-ion collisions can be explored through multiplicity-differential measurements of identified hadrons in pp collisions. With these measurements, it is possible to study mechanisms such as collective flow that determine the shapes of hadron transverse momentum ( pT ) spectra, to search for possible modifications of the yields of short-lived hadronic resonances due to scattering effects in an extended hadron-gas phase, and to investigate different explanations provided by phenomenological models for enhancement of strangeness production with increasing multiplicity. In this paper,…
