High-resolution study of some doubly excited vibrational states of PH2D: the m1 + m2, m2 + m5, m2 + m3, and m2 + m6 bands

2004

Abstract The absorption bands ν 1 + ν 2 , ν 2 + ν 3 , and ν 2 + ν 6 of PH 2 D have been recorded for the first time using a high-resolution Bruker 120 HR interferometer, and rotationally analyzed. Some transitions belonging to the very weak band ν 2 + ν 5 and enhanced in intensity by strong interactions with the ν 1 + ν 2 band were also assigned. Sets of parameters obtained from the fit reproduce experimental line position of the bands ν 1 + ν 2 and ν 2 + ν 3 with about the experimental accuracy. The residuals of the ro-vibrational energies of the ν 2 + ν 6 band are about 10 times larger. Reasons for the poorer reproduction of the latter data are given.

Experimental evidence of the real multimode nature of geometric parametric instability

2020

We show experimentally that geometric parametric instability in graded-index multimode fibers is composed by several multimode spectral components. The experimental observation is obtained by using a new 3D technique of high-resolution spatial and spectral analysis.

Pulsating Solitons in Mode-Locked Fibre Lasers

2017

International audience; We report on our direct experimental observation of a new regime of operation of passively mode-locked fibre lasers where the laser oscillator generates pulsating solitons with extreme ratios of maximal to minimal intensities in each period of pulsations. The soliton spectra also experience large periodic broadening and compression. Spatio-temporal intensity and dispersive Fourier-transformation measurements enable us to capture such transient dynamics in real time.

Spectral dynamics of modulation instability described using Akhmediev breather theory

2011

International audience; The Akhmediev breather formalism of modulation instability is extended to describe the spectral dynamics of induced multiple sideband generation from a modulated continuous wave field. Exact theoretical results describing the frequency domain evolution are compared with experiments performed using single mode fiber around 1550 nm. The spectral theory is shown to reproduce the depletion dynamics of an injected modulated continuous wave pump and to describe the Fermi-Pasta Ulam recurrence and recovery towards the initial state. Realistic simulations including higher-order dispersion, loss and Raman scattering are used to identify that the primary physical factors that …

40-GHz photonic waveform generator by linear shaping of four spectral sidebands

2015

International audience; We show that the amplitude and phase shaping of only four sidebands of the optical spectrum is sufficient to synthesize parabolic, triangular, or flat-top pulse trains at high repetition rates. Selection of the symmetric carrier-suppressed waveform is easily achieved by changing the phase difference between the inner and outer spectral lines. Experiments carried out at a repetition rate of 40 GHz confirm the high quality of the intensity profiles that are obtained.

Hyperfine transitions in the first overtone mode of hydrogen deuteride

2020

Beyond the metrology and computational challenges associated with molecular hydrogen, key data are expected to assess the physics of simple molecular systems, and even the new physics beyond the standard model. To assist the deciphering of Doppler-free spectra obtained at very high accuracy ($\ensuremath{\sim}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}9})$, we report on hyperfine transitions of HD in the lowest vibrational levels of the ground electronic state. Using the spin-rotation, nuclear spin-spin, and quadrupolar hyperfine couplings determined by means of high-level quantum-chemical calculations, the hyperfine energy levels and the associated line intensity have been obtained by using tensorial momentum al…

Cross-Spectrum PM Noise Measurement, Thermal Energy, and Metamaterial Filters.

2017

International audience; Virtually all commercial instruments for the measurement of the oscillator PM noise make use of the crossspectrum method (arXiv:1004.5539 [physics.ins-det], 2010). High sensitivity is achieved by correlation and averaging on two equal channels, which measure the same input, and reject the background of the instrument. We show that a systematic error is always present if the thermal energy of the input power splitter is not accounted for. Such error can result in noise underestimation up to a few decibels in the lowest-noise quartz oscillators, and in an invalid measurement in the case of cryogenic oscillators. As another alarming fact, the presence of metamaterial com…

Pressure Shift and Gravitational Red Shift of Balmer Lines in White Dwarfs. Rediscussion

2015

The Stark-induced shift and asymmetry, the so-called pressure shift (PS) of $H_\alpha$ and $H_\beta$ Balmer lines in spectra of DA white dwarfs (WDs), as masking effects in measurements of the gravitational red shift in WDs, have been examined in detail. The results are compared with our earlier ones from before a quarter of a century (Grabowski et al. 1987, hereafter ApJ'87; Madej and Grabowski 1990). In these earlier papers, as a dominant constituent of the Balmer-line-profiles, the standard, symmetrical Stark line profiles, shifted as the whole by PS-effect, were applied to all spectrally active layers of the WD atmosphere. At present, in each of the WD layers, the Stark-line-profiles (e…

Direct theoretical evidence of nuclear motion in H+2by means of high harmonic generation

2007

The numerical solution of the time-dependent Schro ̈dinger equation for vibrating hydrogen molecular ions in many-cycle laser pulses shows that high- order harmonic generation is sensitive to laser-induced molecular vibrations. In particular, the odd harmonic lines in the emitted spectra are surrounded by additional regular peaks whose spacing is given by the vibrational frequency of the nuclei motion. Analytical theory relates these satellite peaks to the molecular vibrations in terms of an approximated effective potentials. These results are not affected by the dimensionality of the system.
