X-ray spectral and timing characteristics of the stars in the young open cluster IC 2391
2005
We present X-ray spectral and timing analysis of members of the young open cluster IC 2391 observed with the XMM-Newton observatory. We detected 99 X-ray sources by analysing the summed data obtained from MOS1, MOS2 and pn detectors of the EPIC camera; 24 of them are members, or probable members, of the cluster. Stars of all spectral types have been detected, from the early-types to the late-M dwarfs. Despite the capability of the instrument to recognize up to 3 thermal components, the X-ray spectra of the G, K and M members of the cluster are well described with two thermal components (at kT$_1 \sim$ 0.3-0.5 keV and kT$_2 \sim$ 1.0-1.2 keV respectively) while the X-ray spectra of F members…
Shape from polarization: a method for solving zenithal angle ambiguity
2012
International audience; We report a multispectral based method that permits the evolution of shape from polarization setup applied to 3D shape estimation of transparent objects. The setup is based on a polarization imaging technique which is a recent imaging method based on the analysis of the polarization state of the light in the observed scene. The technique has rapidly evolved with the development of electro-optic components and some polarization cameras are now available on the market. Shape from polarization consists in measuring the azimuthal and zenithal angles characterizing the normal of each point of the observed surface. We focus on the ambiguity in the measurement of the zenith…

Chandra observation of the Big Dipper X 1624–490
2006
We present the results of a 73 ks long Chandra observation of the dipping source X 1624-490. During the observation a complex dip lasting 4 hours is observed. We analyse the persistent emission detecting, for the first time in the 1st-order spectra of X 1624-490, an absorption line associated to \ion{Ca}{xx}. We confirm the presence of the \ion{Fe}{xxv} K$_\alpha$ and \ion{Fe}{xxvi} K$_\alpha$ absorption lines with a larger accuracy with respect to a previous XMM observation. Assuming that the line widths are due to a bulk motion or a turbulence associated to the coronal activity, we estimate that the lines have been produced in a photoionized absorber between the coronal radius and the out…
Relativistically Smeared Iron Lines in the Spectra of Bright NS LMXB
2009
We present preliminary results of a study on three bright accreting low-mass X-ray binaries hosting a neutron star, based on XMM-Newton observations. These sources (GX 340+0, GX 349+2 and SAX J1808.4-3658) show a broad Fe K alpha iron line in their spectra. This feature can be well described by relativistic line profile in each case; the good spectral resolution of the EPIC/PN and the high statistics spectra allow to put very good constraints on the disk geometry and ionization stage of the reflecting matter.
The bound state in the spectrum of the Lee–Friedrichs Hamiltonian
2000
Abstract The spectrum of the Lee–Friedrichs Hamiltonian, describing a two-level system embedded in a continuum, is considered. An appropriate discretization of the field modes is performed before taking the continuum limit. It is shown that the existence of an eigenstate with negative energy (bound state) is related to the nonanalyticity of the Friedrichs spectral representation. This negative energy state is a dressed state and its physical properties are studied in some significant cases.
Measurements and calculations of Stark broadening parameters for the N I multiplet (1D)3s2D–(1D)3p2Do
2014
Calculations of line broadening parameters of a doubly excited N I transition, based on atomic structure data (taken from the literature), are reported. The obtained results were used for a critical analysis of formerly published experimental data, based on spectra measured in our laboratory. These measured spectra were then again analyzed and new broadening parameters were determined and compared with results of calculations.
Stark broadening of hydrogen spectral lines with fine structure effects
2004
Formalism and numerical code have been elaborated for calculation of hydrogen line profiles in conditions of plasma in which Stark broadening and fine energy splitting are comparable and it is not possible to neglect either of them. It corresponds to the range of electron densities $10^{11} < N_e ({\rm cm}^{-3}) < 10^{15}$ . Lamb shift and spontaneous emission effects have also been included. Computer simulation method was applied in the calculations. Final results have been compared with experimental and theoretical findings by other authors.
Energy gap of intermediate-valentSmB6studied by point-contact spectroscopy
2001
We have investigated the intermediate valence narrow-gap semiconductor ${\mathrm{SmB}}_{6}$ at low temperatures using both conventional spear-anvil type point contacts as well as mechanically controllable break junctions. The zero-bias conductance varied between less than $0.01 \ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{S}$ and up to 1 mS. The position of the spectral anomalies, which are related to the different activation energies and band gaps of ${\mathrm{SmB}}_{6},$ did not depend on the the contact size. Two different regimes of charge transport could be distinguished: Contacts with large zero-bias conductance are in the diffusive Maxwell regime. They had spectra with only small nonlinearities. Contacts…
Fourier-transform spectroscopy and coupled-channels deperturbation treatment of theA 1Σ+–b 3Πcomplex of KCs
2010
The laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) A {sup 1{Sigma}+}-b {sup 3{Pi}{yields}}X {sup 1{Sigma}+} spectra of the KCs molecule were recorded in a near infrared region by a Fourier-transform spectrometer with a resolution of 0.03 cm{sup -1}. Overall more than 200 collisionally enhanced LIF spectra were rotationally assigned to {sup 39}K{sup 133}Cs and {sup 41}K{sup 133}Cs isotopomers yielding more than 3400 rovibronic term values of the strongly mixed singlet A {sup 1{Sigma}+} and triplet b {sup 3{Pi}} states with the uncertainty of 0.003-0.01 cm{sup -1}. Experimental data massive starts from the lowest vibrational level v{sub A}=0 of the singlet and nonuniformly covers the energy range E is an e…
