Preliminary analysis of CH3D from 3250 to 3700 cm(-1)

2006

International audience; The infrared spectrum of CH3D from 3250 to 3700 cm(-1) was studied for the first time to assign transitions involving the nu(2) + nu(3), nu(2) + nu(5), nu(2) + nu(6), nu(3) + 2(nu 6) and 3 nu(6) vibrational states. Line positions and intensities were measured at 0.011 cm(-1) resolution using Fourier transform spectra recorded at Kitt Peak with isotopically enriched samples. Some 2852 line positions (involving over 900 upper state levels) and 874 line intensities were reproduced with RMS values of 0.0009 cm(-1) and 4.6%, respectively. The strongest bands were found to be nu(2) + nu(3) at 3499.7 cm(-1) and nu(2) + nu(6) at 3342.5 cm(-1) with integrated strengths, respe…

Property (gb) through local spectral theory

2014

Property (gb) for a bounded linear operator T on a Banach space X means that the points c of the approximate point spectrum for which c I-T is upper semi B-Weyl are exactly the poles of the resolvent. In this paper we shall give several characterizations of property (gb). These characterizations are obtained by using typical tools from local spectral theory. We also show that property (gb) holds for large classes of operators and prove the stability of property (gb) under some commuting perturbations.

Technical note : Simulation of lung counting applications using Geant4

2023

A Geant4 simulation package has been developed to investigate and test detector configurations for lung counting applications. The objective of this study was to measure radiation emitted from the human body and to make a qualitative comparison of the results of the simulation with an experiment. Experimental data were measured from a plastic phantom with a set of lungs containing 241Am activity. For comparison, simulations in which 241Am activity was uniformly distributed inside the lungs of the ICRP adult reference computational phantom were made. The attenuation of photons by the chest wall was simulated and from this photopeak ef-ficiency and photon transmission were calculated as a fun…

Updating strategies for distance based classification model with recursive least squares

2022

Abstract. The idea is to create a self-learning Minimal Learning Machine (MLM) model that is computationally efficient, easy to implement and performs with high accuracy. The study has two hypotheses. Experiment A examines the possibilities of introducing new classes with Recursive Least Squares (RLS) updates for the pre-trained self learning-MLM model. The idea of experiment B is to simulate the push broom spectral imagers working principles, update and test the model based on a stream of pixel spectrum lines on a continuous scanning process. Experiment B aims to train the model with a significantly small amount of labelled reference points and update it continuously with (RLS) to reach ma…

Reproducibility of evoked and induced MEG responses to proprioceptive stimulation of the ankle joint

2022

Cortical processing of proprioceptive afference can be investigated by examining phase locked evoked and induced responses in cortical signals to passive movement stimuli. Reproducibility of evoked and induced responses has been studied using electroencephalography (EEG), but proprioceptive domain has received little attention. It is unclear whether evoked and induced responses to proprioceptive stimulation arising from the lower limbs are reproducible using magnetoencephalography (MEG). Nineteen healthy volunteers (18 right-foot dominant, 36.1 ± 6.6 yr, 7 females) were measured in two MEG sessions separated by 9 ± 5 days in which their right ankle was rotated intermittently using a pneumat…

Long-term monitoring of the TeV emission from Mrk 421 with the ARGO-YBJ experiment

2011

ARGO-YBJ is an air shower detector array with a fully covered layer of resistive plate chambers. It is operated with a high duty cycle and a large field of view. It continuously monitors the northern sky at energies above 0.3 TeV. In this paper, we report a long-term monitoring of Mrk 421 over the period from 2007 November to 2010 February. This source was observed by the satellite-borne experiments Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer and Swift in the X-ray band. Mrk 421 was especially active in the first half of 2008. Many flares are observed in both X-ray and gamma-ray bands simultaneously. The gamma-ray flux observed by ARGO-YBJ has a clear correlation with the X-ray flux. No lag between the X-r…

Spatially Resolved Broadband Synchrotron Emission from the Nonthermal Limbs of SN1006

2018

We present ~400ks NuSTAR observations of the northeast (NE) and southwest (SW) non-thermal limbs of the Galactic SNR SN1006. We discovered three sources with X-ray emission detected at >50keV. Two of them are identified as background AGN. We extract the NuSTAR spectra from a few regions along the non-thermal limbs and jointly analyze them with the XMM-Newton spectra and the radio data. The broad-band radio/X-ray spectra can be well described with a synchrotron emission model from a single population of CR electrons with a power law energy distribution and an exponential cutoff. The power law index of the electron particle distribution function (PDF) is ~1.88-1.95 for both the NE and SW l…

Robustness of asymmetry and coherence of quantum states

2016

Quantum states may exhibit asymmetry with respect to the action of a given group. Such an asymmetry of states can be considered as a resource in applications such as quantum metrology, and it is a concept that encompasses quantum coherence as a special case. We introduce explicitly and study the robustness of asymmetry, a quantifier of asymmetry of states that we prove to have many attractive properties, including efficient numerical computability via semidefinite programming, and an operational interpretation in a channel discrimination context. We also introduce the notion of asymmetry witnesses, whose measurement in a laboratory detects the presence of asymmetry. We prove that properly c…

Challenges in the use of Near Infrared Spectroscopy for improving wood quality: A review

2018

Aims of study: Forestry-related companies require quality monitoring methods capable to pass a large number of samples. This review paper is dealing with the utilization of near infrared (NIR) technique for wood analysis.Area of study: We have a global point of view for NIR applications and characterization of different kind of wood species is considered.Material and methods: NIR spectroscopy is a fast, non-destructive technique, applicable to any biological material, demanding little or no sample preparation. NIR spectroscopy and multivariate analysis serve well in laboratories where the conditions are controlled. The main challenges to NIR spectroscopy technique in field conditions are mo…
