X-ray tomographic method for measuring three-dimensional deformation and water content distribution in swelling clays

A non-invasive method for simultaneous measurement of the 3D displacement field and the water content distribution of a wetted solid material is developed. The method is based on comparison of X-ray tomographic images of a material sample in the reference state and in the wetted and deformed state. The deformation and water content analyses were successfully compared with numerical results for a cylindrical rubber test sample under axial compression, and with gravimetric results from axially wetted and sliced cylindrical bentonite samples, respectively. Mechanisms of irreversible aquaporin-10 inhibition by organogold compounds studied by combined biophysical methods and atomistic simulations

Abstract The inhibition of glycerol permeation via human aquaporin-10 (hAQP10) by organometallic gold complexes has been studied by stopped-flow fluorescence spectroscopy, and its mechanism has been described using molecular modelling and atomistic simulations. The most effective hAQP10 inhibitors are cyclometalated Au(III) C^N compounds known to efficiently react with cysteine residues leading to the formation of irreversible C–S bonds. Functional assays also demonstrate the irreversibility of the binding to hAQP10 by the organometallic complexes. In this paper we propose a new mobility model that uses sea transports for systematic and occasional users, tourists, etc.., which must reach the airports of Palermo and Trapani. In particular fast ferries, even with their operational limitations, can be used for quick links designed for the mobility demand that interests the airports of Western Sicily. The main purpose of this study was to explore similarities and differences in the association between two capabilities affecting the cardiorespiratory system (overall and multifactorial cardiorespiratory fitness and inspiratory muscle strength) and the health-related quality of life (HRQoL), in a group of active healthy seniors. This article examines older physical education (PE) teachers’ wellbeing over the course of their career in Finland. The study highlights challenges to physical and mental functioning as well as how teachers respond to these challenges. The six interviewees were over 55-year-old PE teachers, whose career had lasted for more than 30 years. W 2000 r. w Polsce rozpoczął się proces regionalizacji kolei. Odpowiedzialność za przewozy wojewódzkie przeniesiono na samorządy wojewódzkie. Przedmiotem badania były powiązania międzywojewódzkie pociągami osobowymi Wielkopolski i 7 województw ościennych (razem 33 trasy). Na 15 z nich prowadzone są przewozy pasażerskie. Basque pilota is a traditional sport played mainly by men. A project emerged in 2005 to promote female participation: Emakumea Pilotari (Woman pelota player). In this article we present the main points that emerged from an ethnographic study of the social relationships that playing Basque pilota can provide. The study was carried out in 2011-2012 season with a purposive sample of 28 adult women Basque pilota players (pilotaris) (between 22 and 60 years old). 26 participants were pilotaris in recreational groups and the other two were their trainers.
