5-6 gadīgu bērnu pamatkustību apguves veicināšana sporta nodarbībās
2022
Pētījumu mērķis: Noskaidrot par 5-6 gadīgu bērnu pamatkustību apguves sekmēšanu sporta nodarbībās. Teorētiskā daļā aplūkots: •Pamatkustības un to nozīme bērna fiziskajā attīstībā. Izvirzot kritērijus katrai no šīm pa…

Me, Myself, and My Thoughts : The Influence of Brooding and Reflective Rumination on Depressive Symptoms in Athletes in the United Kingdom
2020
Individual differences in vulnerability to depression are still underexplored in athletes. We tested the influence of different brooding and reflective rumination profiles (i.e., repetitive thought processes in response to low/depressed mood) on the odds of experiencing clinically relevant depressive symptoms in competitive athletes (N = 286). The Patient Health Questionnaire–9 and the Ruminative Responses Scale– short form were utilized to measure depression and rumination, respectively. Compared to athletes with a low brooding/reflection profile, athletes with a high brooding/reflection profile had significantly higher odds of experiencing clinical levels of depressive symptoms (OR = 13.4…
Suicide and depression in former contact sports participants: population-based cohort study, systematic review, and meta-analysis
2022
SummaryBackgroundTraumatic brain injury is associated with the future risk of depression and suicide, and this raises the possibility that former participants in sports characterised by low intensity repetitive head impact may also subsequently experience an increased burden of these mental health outcomes. Using new data from a cohort study integrated into a meta-analysis of the current evidence, we compared the occurrence of depression and suicide in former contact sports athletes against general population controls.MethodsThe cohort study comprised 2004 retired male athletes who had competed internationally on an amateur basis for Finland between 1920 and 1965, and 1385 age-equivalent ma…
The Use of Question Modification Strategies to Differentiate Instruction in Eritrean Mathematics and Science Classrooms
2023
This qualitative study aimed at examining the question modification strategies Eritrean elementary and middle school teachers used to differentiate their instruction and meet the diversity in the classroom as well as the functions these strategies served in classroom interactions. The research data consisted of videotaped recordings (N = 11 videotaped lessons) of classroom interactions in eight mathematics and science classrooms, which were analysed through interaction analysis. The findings showed that Eritrean teachers utilised the following five question modification strategies either independently or in combination: repetition; rephrasing; clarification; decomposition; and code-switchin…
Peak oxygen uptake cut-points to identify children at increased cardiometabolic risk - The PANIC Study.
2019
We aimed to develop cut -points for directly measured peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak ) to identify boys and girls at increased cardiometabolic risk using different scaling methods to control for body size and composition. Altogether 352 children (186 boys, 166 girls) aged 9 – 11 years were included in the analyses. We measured VO2peak directly during a maximal cycle ergometer exercise test and lean body mass (LM) by bioelectrical impedance. We computed a sex - and age -specific cardiometabolic risk score (CRS) by summing important cardiometabolic risk factors and defined increased cardiometabolic risk as >1 standard deviation above the mean of CRS. Receiver operating characteristics curves wer…
Effect of Stacking Sequence and Sodium Bicarbonate Treatment on Quasi-Static and Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Flax/Jute Epoxy-Based Composites
2019
The present paper deals with the investigation of quasi-static and dynamic mechanical response of epoxy-based composites reinforced with flax and/or jute plain weave fabrics. In order to evaluate the influence of the stacking sequence, two monolithic laminates reinforced with flax or jute fibers and two hybrid flax/jute laminates were manufactured through the vacuum infusion technique. Furthermore, an eco-friendly and cost-effective surface treatment based on fiber soaking in a sodium bicarbonate solution was employed to improve the fiber-matrix adhesion. The mechanical characterization (by means of quasi-static flexural, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and Charpy impact tests) allowed …
Comparative study between different methods for the efficiency of the production activity in the wood industry
2017
Generally speaking, the quality and cost of goods and in particular of the wood products is a decisive condition in their sales on the market, attracting buyers to satisfy their wishes and requirements. Starting from the general idea, by which it is considered that the manufacturing activity is effective if production is obtained at maximum quality with a low (minimum) cost, or when the revenue from the sale of products exceeds the market expenditure which is necessary to achieve it, this research article aims to study ways to make production more efficient by methods which could also be applied in the wood industry, by presenting a comparative study on production optimization methods in th…
Me, osteogenesis imperfecta, and my classmates in physical education lessons: a case study of embodied pedagogy in action
2017
Pupils with disabilities have been found to experience a narrower physical education curriculum and participate less frequently than pupils without disabilities. A lack of knowledge, skills, relevant experiences and confidence amongst physical education (PE) teachers has been said to contribute to these differential educational experiences. This article adds to the paucity of research that analyses the PE experiences of pupils with disabilities while, at the same time, evaluating embodied pedagogy as a tool for better preparing PE teachers for their role as inclusive educators. Specifically, the article aims to: (1) explore the PE experiences of a university student named Violeta who lives …
