Benefits and drawbacks of communication visibility : from vicarious learning and supplemental work to knowledge reuse and overload

2022

Purpose This study aims to examine some of the benefits and drawbacks of communication visibility. Specifically, building on communication visibility theory, the authors study how and why message transparency and network translucence may increase knowledge reuse and perceived overload through behavioral responses of vicarious learning and technology-assisted supplemental work. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on survey data obtained from 1,127 employees of a global company operating in the industrial machinery sector, the authors used structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized model. Findings The results demonstrate that the two aspects of communication visibility yield somew…

Validation of a Psychosocial Chronic Stress Model in the Pig Using a Multidisciplinary Approach at the Gut-Brain and Behavior Levels

2019

Psychological chronic stress is an important risk factor for major depressive disorder, of which consequences have been widely studied in rodent models. This work aimed at describing a pig model of chronic stress based on social isolation, environmental impoverishment and unpredictability. Three groups of animals of both sexes were constituted. Two were exposed to the psychosocial stressors while receiving (SF, n = 12) or not (SC, n = 22) the antidepressant fluoxetine, and a third group (NSC, n = 22) remained unstressed. Animals were observed in home pens and during dedicated tests to assess resignation and anxiety-like behaviors. Brain structure and function were evaluated via proton MRS a…

Neutriinojen ja kvarkkien sekoitusmatriisien välinen yhteys

2012

In this thesis relations between neutrino mixing matrix and quark mixing matrix are studied. The focus of the analysis is on two simple cases. In the first case it is assumed that the left matrix that diagonalizes the mass matrix of charged leptons and the corresponding matrix of down quarks are equal. In the second case it is likewise assumed that the corresponding diagonalizing matrices of neutrinos and up quarks are equal. First, theoretical concepts related to the mixing of quarks and especially to the mixing of neutrinos are presented. These are e.g. fermion mass generation in the Standard Model, Majorana masses of neutrinos and the so-called seesaw mechanism. Regarding experiments, ne…

Direct measurement of the mass difference of 72As-72Ge rules out 72As as a promising β-decay candidate to determine the neutrino mass

2021

Preprint of paper published on Physical Review C We report the first direct determination of the ground-state to ground-state electron-capture Q-value for the 72As to 72Ge decay by measuring their atomic mass difference utilizing the double Penning trap mass spectrometer, JYFLTRAP. The Q-value was measured to be 4343.596(75) keV, which is more than a 50-fold improvement in precision compared to the value in the most recent Atomic Mass Evaluation 2020. Furthermore, the new Qvalue was found to be 12.4(40) keV (3.1 σ) lower. With the significant reduction of the uncertainty of the ground-state to ground-state Q-value value combined with the level scheme of 72Ge from γ-ray spectro…

Numerical studies on neutrino oscillation physics in long baseline experiments

2018

This thesis examines the prospects of future long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. Using computer simulation techniques, we calculate the experimental sensitivities for two experimental configurations in a set of important questions which are all relevant for modern day neutrino physics. First, we set focus on the determination of the θ23 octant, where the aim is to find whether the atmospheric neutrino mixing angle θ23 lies in the high octant, θ23 > 45◦, or in the low octant, θ23 < 45◦. On the other hand, we study how well the long baseline experiments could test the limits of the Standard Model by seeking deviations from the oscillation patterns that follow from the standard three…

GW170817: Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Neutron Star Inspiral

2017

On August 17, 2017 at 12-41:04 UTC the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detectors made their first observation of a binary neutron star inspiral. The signal, GW170817, was detected with a combined signal-to-noise ratio of 32.4 and a false-alarm-rate estimate of less than one per 8.0×104 years. We infer the component masses of the binary to be between 0.86 and 2.26 M, in agreement with masses of known neutron stars. Restricting the component spins to the range inferred in binary neutron stars, we find the component masses to be in the range 1.17-1.60 M, with the total mass of the system 2.74-0.01+0.04M. The source was localized within a sky region of 28 deg2 (90% probabili…

A revision of the Old World species of Leptopsilopa Cresson (Insecta: Diptera: Ephydridae)

2016

Diagnoses and illustrations of three Leptopsilopa species known in the Old World: L. africana Cresson, L. mutabilis Cresson and L. pollinosa (Kertesz) are provided. Three new synonyms are proposed: L. aurata (Canzoneri and Meneghini) and L. tibialis (Canzoneri and Meneghini) = L. africana; Psilopa confeteae Canzoneri and Munari = L. pollinosa. Three other species are removed from Leptopsilopa and combined with Athyroglossa, as A. leonensis (Canzoneri and Rampini), new combination, A. mianii (Canzoneri) new combination and A. rossii (Canzoneri and Raffone), new combination.

Processus sensoriels cognitifs et comportementaux impliqués dans la perception des mélanges odorants alimentaires complexes chez le lapin nouveau-né …

2015

Within each breath, a large diversity of volatiles molecules of the surrounding reaches our olfactory receptors. Despite the chemical complexity of the natural environment, the organisms succeed to represent their world using relevant information carried by single odorants or mixtures. Focusing on the perception of these stimuli, we explored the processes involved in the treatment of this complex information, sometimes supported by mixtures or sub-mixtures. The treatment is based on two processes: the elemental mode, which allows extracting the odor quality of all or some of the elements, or the configural mode which allows the holistic representation of the mixture. In this doctoral thesis…
