Studies on the determinants of migration and the spatial concentration of labour

This thesis consists of five empirical studies which seek to understand the processes behind interregional migration decisions and the spatial concentration of labour. The empirical studies are preceded by an introductory chapter that, among other topics, discusses spatial concentration in Finland between 1980 and 2000, and surveys prior evidence on the determinants of migration. The thesis mainly utilises Finnish longitudinal population census data from 1993?1996. A variety of advanced microeconometric methods are used in the modelling of the migration phenomenon to ensure robustness and the reliability of the results. The paper presents a microsimulation approach for assessing the safety performance of turbo-roundabouts where Cooperative Autonomous Vehicles “CAVs” have been introduced into the traffic mix alongside conventional vehicles “CVs”. Based on the analysis of vehicle trajectories from VISSIM and subsequent analysis of traffic conflicts through the Surrogate Safety Assessment Model (SSAM), the research aims to evaluate the safety benefits of turbo-roundabouts where the lanes are physically separated by raised curbs, compared to roundabouts without such curbs. In 2015, Finland, like other European countries, received an unprecedented number of asylum seekers. Later, in the aftermath of what we prefer to call the ‘refugee reception crisis’, the deportation of those who had received negative asylum decisions began. The Finnish Immigration Service significantly tightened its policies after 2015. Increasingly strict asylum criteria have resulted in deportations at a level never seen before. Furthermore, protests against deportations have increased and become publicly salient. Tässä tutkielmassa tutustuttiin fysiikan peruskurssin laskuharjoitusten toteutukseen pienryhmä-keskustelujen avulla ja siihen, miten pienryhmäkeskustelua voisi muuttaa oppimisen kannalta tehokkaammaksi. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa katsottiin vaikuttaako tilaisuutta ohjaavan assistentin osallistuminen keskusteluihin keskusteluiden luonteeseen. Tutkittavat pienryhmäkeskustelut ää-nitettiin ja kuvattiin analysointia varten. Tutkittavana kurssina toimi Jyväskylän yliopiston fysii-kanlaitoksen mekaniikan peruskurssin jatko-osa. Gramatikas kļūdu analīze 12. klases angļu valodas eksāmena rakstiskajā daļā

Angļu valodas centralizētais eksāmens 12. klasei sastāv no atsevišķām sadaļām katras valodas prasmes pārbaudei, bet rakstīšanas daļa sevī ietver vairāku prasmju pārbaudi. Rakstīšana un gramatika ir cieši saistītas. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir reģistrēt un klasificēt 12. klases skolēnu pieļautās gramatiskās kļūdas 2014. un 2015. gada centralizēto angļu valodas eksāmenu esejās. Diskursa analīze ir galvenā šī darba pētījuma metode. Pētījuma ietvaros tika analizētas simts esejas un noteiktas tajās esošās biežākās gramatiskās kļūdas un to cēloņi. Pētījuma rezultāti rāda, ka visbiežāk pieļautās gramatiskās kļūdas ir nepareizs artikulu lietojums, lietvārda un darbības vārda saskaņošana un nepareiza vārd…
Eseju rakstīšana B2 līmenī: mācību grāmatu analīze

Mācību grāmatas ir vienas no visbiežāk izmantotiem materiāliem valodas apguvei. Šī darba mērķis ir analizēt eseju rakstīšanas uzdevumu veidus B2 līmenī. Mērķa sasniegšanai tika veikta satura analīze “High Note 4” un “Focus 4” mācību grāmatu komplektiem. Rezultāti parādīja, ka vairums uzdevumu ir eseju rakstīšana, kuros studentiem ir jāizstrādā rakstisks darbs vai jāieraksta trūkstošos saistvārdus esejās vai teikumos. Divu mācību grāmatu komplektu novērtējums parādīja, ka “Focus 4” un “High Note 4” studentu grāmatām, kā arī darba grāmatām ir atšķirības saturā un tā secības, uzdevumu skaita, eseju tēmu, pašpārbaudes uzdevumu ziņā. Tika secināts, ka mācību grāmatas var attīstīt eseju rakstīšan…
