« Allianz-Arena, Orange Vélodrome & Co: zum Werbepotenzial kommerzieller Namen von Sportplätzen im deutsch-französischen Vergleich »
2021

PREDICTION OF MOESSBAUER PARAMETERS IN A DOUGLAS–KROLL–HESS FRAMEWORK

Dielectric relaxation models applied of the dynamics of myoglobin as determined by Mössbauer spectroscopy
1996
Abstract Protein specific modes of motions are found in myoglobin crystals above 180 K. In this contribution we show that this type of motions can be analyzed by a Davidson-Cole, a Cole-Cole or a Havriliak-Negami distribution in analogy to dielectric relaxation. However, the temperature dependence of the obtained parameters is quite unusual indicating a broadening of the distributions with temperature instead of motional narrowing. This can be understood from the picture of conformational substates if one assumes that more and more substates become accessible with increasing temperature. The result shows that the analogy between glass forming organic liquids and proteins should not be exagg…
Electric relaxation and Mn3+/Mn4+ charge transfer in Fe-doped Bi12MnO20–BiMn2O5 structural self-composite
2016
Fe-doped Bi12MnO20–BiMn2O5 ceramics was sintered at 1130 K for 6 h in ambient air. Two centro-symmetric phases formed thermodynamically stable self-composite material that was deduced from X-ray pattern analysis. The lattice parameters were a = 10.147(8) Å—for the cubic I23 Bi12MnO20 phase; and a = 7.545(4) Å, b = 8.538(1) Å, c = 5.758(3) Å—for the orthorhombic Pbam BiMn2O5 phase. The 57Fe Mössbauer spectrum, recorded at room temperature, has shown pure electronic quadrupolar split. The major doublets reflected the occurrence of Fe3+ ions distributed in two sites, i.e., octahedral Fe4+O6 and square pyramidal Fe3+O5, with preferential occupation of the pyramidal sites, that was consistent wi…
DSSC-integrated Glassblocks for the construction of Sustainable Building Envelopes
2014
The paper shows the first results of the optical performance analysis carried out on the DSSC integrated glassblock, an innovative building product developed at the Department of Architecture of the University of Palermo. In the field of a research that is being conducted in order to define innovative solutions for the construction of photovoltaic and energy efficient translucent building envelopes, different hypotheses of integration of DSSC into the glassblock have been foreseen. The integration of glassblock with third generation PV systems allows to define a novel building-PV product that meets the current requirements of the BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics) market. By means of …
Hemoglobin dynamics in rat erythrocytes investigated by Mssbauer spectroscopy
1991
Rats have been enriched in 57Fe and erythrocytes were isolated from the blood. Mössbauer absorption spectroscopy on the hemoglobin of these erythrocytes has shown rather similar dynamics as found earlier in crystals of myoglobin, in frozen solutions of human hemoglobin and in a number of other proteins. The results strongly indicate that the motion of the heme and presumably some part of the F-helix is mainly influenced by the average viscosity of the sample determined by a network of hydrogen bridges and other weak interactions. Extrapolations of Mössbauer results from protein crystals to proteins in their physiological surroundings seem to be suitable for heme proteins.
Equilibrium, Structural and Biological Activity Studies on [Organotin(IV)]n+ Complexes
2008
Organotin(IV) compounds are characterized by the presence of at least one covalent C–Sn bond. The compounds contain tetravalent {Sn} centers and are classified as mono-, di-, tri-, and tetraorganotin(IV), depending on the number of alkyl (R) or aryl (Ar) moieties bound. The anions are usually Cl, F, O2, OH,–COO, or –S. It seems that the nature of the anionic group has only secondary importance in biological activity. The rapid rise in the industrial (catalyst in PVC and foam production), agricultural (fungicides and acaricides), and biological applications (wood, stone, and glass preservatives) of organotin(IV) compounds during the last few decades has led to their accumulation in the envir…
Spin crossover behavior in a series of iron(III) alkoxide complexes.
2015
The synthesis, crystal structures, magnetic behavior, and electron paramagnetic resonance studies of five new FeIII spin crossover (SCO) complexes are reported. The [FeIIIN5O] coordination core is constituted of the pentadentate ligand bztpen (N5) and a series of alkoxide anions (ethoxide, propoxide, n-butoxide, isobutoxide, and ethylene glycoxide). The methoxide derivative previously reported by us is also reinvestigated. The six complexes crystallize in the orthorhombic Pbca space group and show similar molecular structures and crystal packing. The coordination octahedron is strongly distorted in both the high- and low-temperature structures. The structural changes upon spin conversion ar…
Subband image coding using filter banks with non-uniform passband distribution
2002
Subband filter banks with non-uniform passband distribution in frequency domain are studied. Several design examples are presented and compared with conventional uniform bandwidth filter banks. Image coding results show that filter banks with non-uniform bandwidth outperform filter banks with uniform bandwidth, especially in low bit rate coding.
