Adaptation and Initial Validation of the BRCS in an Elderly Spanish Sample

2012

Resilience is understood as a dynamic process encompassing positive adaptation within the context of adversity. This study examined the validity of the Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS), a 4-item measure designed to capture tendencies to cope with stress in a highly adaptive manner, in an elderly Spanish population. A total of 133 elderly people from an association of retired persons in Valencia (Spain) provided the responses for the validation study. The factorial validity of the scale was tested using confirmatory factor analysis, with a single dimension of resilience with adequate fit indexes emerging from this analysis. The BRCS has adequate internal consistency both at the scale and…

Religious Self-definition, Mass Attendance, Importance of God, and Hopelessness among Spanish Undergraduates

2011

The aim of this work was to examine the relationship between religious self-definition, attending Mass, the importance of God, and hopelessness under the hy-pothesis that these religious variables and hopelessness are negatively related. The par-ticipants were 273 Spanish undergraduates who were incidentally recruited. and who completed three religious items and the Spanish version of a Hopelessness Scale. The Chi-squared test and Bonferroni test were used in the statistical analysis. The results indicate that there were no statistically significant differences between the religious self-definition and attending Mass groups in relation to hopelessness, whereas there were differences between…

Rytmiikan oppimisen lähtökohdat

2014

Opetustaitojensa kehittämisestä kiinnostuneille tietoa on saatavilla kuitenkin hajanaisesti. Esimerkiksi lyömäsoitinopetuksessa rytmiikan opetukseen liittyen ei ole saatavilla kirjallisuutta…

Transnational Struggle for Recognition: Axel Honneth on the Embodied Dignity of Stateless Persons

2021

In the last 15 years, scholars have increasingly applied Axel Honneth’s recognition theory to global issues such as justice, poverty, solidarity, peace, cosmopolitanism, and climate change. UNHCR estimates that there are currently 12 million stateless people worldwide. Their citizenship rights and human rights are mis-recognized. As humans, their human rights and human dignity should be protected. However, this requires being a citizen of a state, which, by definition, excludes stateless people. Although representing a fairly large group among today’s irregular migrants, within the above Honneth scholarship, statelessness is seldom investigated. And if being explored, the primary focus is r…

A novel paramagnetic molecular superconductor formed by bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene, tris(oxalato)ferrate(iii) anions and bromobenzene as g…

2005

The new paramagnetic molecular superconductor ET4[(H3O)Fe(C2O4)3]·C6H5Br (1) (Tc = 4.0 K) contains layers of superconducting ET donors alternating with paramagnetic hexagonal layers formed by (H3O)+, [Fe(C2O4)3]3− and guest C6H5Br molecules located in the hexagonal cavities. Conductivity measurements show metallic behavior from room temperature with a minimum in the resistivity at ca. 50 K followed by a smooth increase and a sharp drop in the resistivity with an onset at 4.0 K and a zero resistance at ca. 1.0 K. Magnetoresistance measurements indicate that Hc1 is about 7 mT and that Hc2 is very anisotropic (Hc2⊥ ≥ 5.5 T and Hc2|| ≈ 0.5 T). Magnetic susceptibility measurements show the expec…

Electromagnetic behaviour of superconductive amorphous metals

2005

The penetration depth of the magnetic field into an amorphous superconductor is calculated. The ratio of the London penetration depth δL to the electron free path le under zero temperature is above unity for almost all amorphous metals. That is why pure metals, in a superconducting state, change from type I superconductors to type II superconductors during the crystalline–amorphous transition.

Heat Capacity of Mesoscopic Superconducting Disks

1999

We study the heat capacity of isolated giant vortex states, which are good angular momentum ($L$) states, in a mesoscopic superconducting disk using the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory. At small magnetic fields the $L$=0 state qualitatively behaves like the bulk sample characterized by a discontinuity in heat capacity at $T_c$. As the field is increased the discontinuity slowly turns into a continuous change which is a finite size effect. The higher $L$ states show a continuous change in heat capacity at $T_c$ at all fields. We also show that for these higher $L$ states, the behavior of the peak position with change in field is related to the paramagnetic Meissner effect (irreversible) and can …

Motor imagery

2015

International audience; Before participating in a space mission, astronauts undergo parabolic-flight and underwater training to facilitate their subsequent adaptation to weightlessness. Unfortunately, similar training methods can't be used to prepare re adaptation to planetary gravity. Here, we propose a quick, simple and inexpensive approach that could be used to prepare astronauts both for the absence and for the renewed presence of gravity. This approach is based on motor imagery (MI), a process in which actions are produced in working memory without any overt output. Training protocols based on MI have repeatedly been shown to modify brain circuitry and to improve motor performance in h…
