2D Bimetallic Oxalate‐Based Ferromagnets with Inserted [Fe(4‐Br‐sal 2 ‐trien)] + and [Fe(3‐R‐sal 2 ‐trien)] + (R = Br, Cl and CH 3 O) Fe III Spin‐Cro…

2012

The syntheses, structures and magnetic properties of the compounds of formula [FeIII(4-Br-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]0.67Cl0.33·CH3OH_solvate (1), [FeIII(3-Br-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]·(CH3CN)2 (2), [FeIII(3-Cl-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]·(CH3OH)2·(CH3CN)2 (3) and [FeIII(3-CH3O-sal2-trien)][MnIICrIII(ox)3]·(CH3OH)·(H2O)1.5·(CH2Cl2)0.5 (4) are reported. The four structures present a 2D honeycomb anionic layer formed by MnII and CrIII ions linked through oxalate ligands and a cationic layer of the FeIII complexes intercalated between the 2D oxalate network. The main differences compared with previous 2D oxalate-based structures are the presence of double layers of cations in compounds 1,…

Spin state switching in iron coordination compounds

2013

The article deals with coordination compounds of iron(II) that may exhibit thermally induced spin transition, known as spin crossover, depending on the nature of the coordinating ligand sphere. Spin transition in such compounds also occurs under pressure and irradiation with light. The spin states involved have different magnetic and optical properties suitable for their detection and characterization. Spin crossover compounds, though known for more than eight decades, have become most attractive in recent years and are extensively studied by chemists and physicists. The switching properties make such materials potential candidates for practical applications in thermal and pressure sensors …

Plasma membrane transporters for arginine

2004

The supply of arginine may become rate limiting for enzymatic reactions that use this semiessential amino acid as a substrate (e.g., nitric oxide, agmatine, creatine, and urea synthesis), particularly under conditions of high demand such as growth, sepsis, or wound healing. In addition, arginine acts as a signaling molecule that regulates essential cellular functions such as protein synthesis, apoptosis, and growth. In the past decade, a number of carrier proteins for amino acids have been identified on the molecular level. They belong to different gene families, exhibit overlapping but distinctive substrate specificities, and can further be distinguished by their requirement for the cotran…

Spin-crossover iron(ii) complex showing thermal hysteresis around room temperature with symmetry breaking and an unusually high T(LIESST) of 120 K.

2019

We report a Fe(II) complex based on 4′,4′′ carboxylic acid disubstituted dipyrazolylpyridine that shows a spin-crossover close to room temperature associated to a crystallographic phase transition and the LIESST effect with a high T(LIESST) of 120 K.

Photoswitchable coordination compounds

2001

Photoswitchable compounds represent an attractive class of materials in coordination chemistry. Recent progress dealing with transition metal compounds involving photo-induced changes of the magnetic and/or optical properties to long-lived metastable states are covered in the present review article. The basic photophysical phenomena together with representative examples such as nitroprusside derivatives, relevant spin crossover complexes, stilbenoid complexes and finally Prussian blue analogues are discussed. Some possible applications regarding energy and information storage are suggested at the end.

Crosstalk between mitochondria and peroxisomes

2015

Mitochondria and peroxisomes are small ubiquitous organelles. They both play major roles in cell metabolism, especially in terms of fatty acid metabolism, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and ROS scavenging, and it is now clear that they metabolically interact with each other. These two organelles share some properties, such as great plasticity and high potency to adapt their form and number according to cell requirements. Their functions are connected, and any alteration in the function of mitochondria may induce changes in peroxisomal physiology. The objective of this paper was to highlight the interconnection and the crosstalk existing between mitochondria and peroxisomes. Speci…

Spin Transition Molecular Materials: New Sensors

2002

This short review article concerns a new family of iron(II) spin transition chain compounds containing 4-R-1,2,4-triazole derivatives whose properties have been followed by several physical techniques. A clear evidence of the LIESST effect at 20 K has been found for one of these materials by 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy. Potential applications in terms of pressure and thermal sensors are discussed.

Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria in Patients with Common Variable Immunodeficiency

2018

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a predominantly antibody deficiency and is one of the most common primary immunodeficiencies in adulthood. Replacement therapy with Ig has significantly reduced infectious complications; however, malignant, autoimmune, and inflammatory diseases are still current major causes of morbidity and mortality. In recent years, interest has increased regarding allergic manifestations that may be associated with primary immunodeficiencies; however, no data are currently available on chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU). In this report, the authors describe CSU in patients with CVID attending their centre. Three CVID patients were affected by CSU and were unre…

Cimdu adītāja, stāstniece Jette Užāne un viņas performance

2020

Darbā “Cimdu adītāja, stāstniece Jette Užāne un viņas performance”, izmantojot naratatīva pētījuma metodes, biogrāfisko, autobiogrāfisko un performances pieeju, tiek atklāta cimdu adītājas J.Užānes naratīva veidošanas un darbības dažādie aspekti. J.Užānes devums - lietišķā māksla (cimdu adīšanas) un performance (cimdu stāsti, pasaules uzskats dienasgrāmatās, cimdu izrādes) tiek ievietots plašākā folkloras tradīcijas izpētes kontekstā. J.Užāne atjauno un paplašina cimdu adīšanas tradīciju – pētot etnogrāfisko rakstu un krāsu salikumu nozīmi, viņa atklāj jaunu telpu radīšanai, saglabājot tradīcijas kodolu. J.Užāne cimdam piešķir jaunu jēgu un rada mākslas darbus. Tiek secināts, ka sabiedrība,…
