Temporal aspects of copper homeostasis and its crosstalk with hormones
2015
To cope with the dual nature of copper as being essential and toxic for cells, plants temporarily adapt the expression of copper homeostasis components to assure its delivery to cuproproteins while avoiding the interference of potential oxidative damage derived from both copper uptake and photosynthetic reactions during light hours. The circadian clock participates in the temporal organization of coordination of plant nutrition adapting metabolic responses to the daily oscillations. This timely control improves plant fitness and reproduction and holds biotechnological potential to drive increased crop yields. Hormonal pathways, including those of abscisic acid, gibberellins, ethylene, auxin…

Modelling accretion disc and stellar wind interactions: the case of Sgr A*
2016
Sgr A* is an ideal target to study low-luminosity accreting systems. It has been recently proposed that properties of the accretion flow around Sgr A* can be probed through its interactions with the stellar wind of nearby massive stars belonging to the S-cluster. When a star intercepts the accretion disk, the ram and thermal pressures of the disk terminate the stellar wind leading to the formation of a bow shock structure. Here, a semi-analytical model is constructed which describes the geometry of the termination shock formed in the wind. With the employment of numerical hydrodynamic simulations, this model is both verified and extended to a region prone to Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities. …
Interannual and decadal SST-forced responses of the West African monsoon
2010
International audience; We review the studies carried out during the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA)-EU on the changes of interannual sea surface temperature (SST)-West African monsoon (WAM) covariability at multidecadal timescales, together with the influence of global warming (GW). The results obtained in the AMMA-EU suggest the importance of the background state, modulated by natural and anthropogenic variability, in the appearance of different interannual modes. The lack of reliability of current coupled models in giving a realistic assessment for WAM in the future is also stated.
The matricellular protein SPARC supports follicular dendritic cell networking toward Th17 responses.
2011
Abstract Lymphnode swelling during immune responses is a transient, finely regulated tissue rearrangement, accomplished with the participation of the extracellular matrix. Here we show that murine and human reactive lymph nodes express SPARC in the germinal centres. Defective follicular dendritic cell networking in SPARC-deficient mice is accompanied by a severe delay in the arrangement of germinal centres and development of humoral autoimmunity, events that are linked to Th17 development. SPARC is required for the optimal and rapid differentiation of Th17 cells, accordingly we show delayed development of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis whose pathogenesis involves Th17. Not only h…
Molecular detection of Bartonella spp. in deer ked pupae, adult keds and moose blood in Finland
2014
SUMMARYThe deer ked (Lipoptena cervi) is a haematophagous ectoparasite of cervids that harbours haemotrophic Bartonella. A prerequisite for the vector competence of the deer ked is the vertical transmission of the pathogen from the mother to its progeny and transstadial transmission from pupa to winged adult. We screened 1154 pupae and 59 pools of winged adult deer keds from different areas in Finland for Bartonella DNA using PCR. Altogether 13 pupa samples and one winged adult deer ked were positive for the presence of Bartonella DNA. The amplified sequences were closely related to either B. schoenbuchensis or B. bovis. The same lineages were identified in eight blood samples collected fro…
The [Fe(etz)6](BF4)2 Spin-Crossover System - Part Two: Hysteresis in the LIESST Regime
1996
In the [Fe(etz)6](BF4)2 spincrossover system the iron(II) complexes occupy two nonequivalent lattice sites, sites A and B. Complexes on site A show a thermal high-spin (HS) low-spin (LS) transition at 105 K, whereas complexes on site B remain in the HS state down to 10 K. Complexes on both sites exhibit light-induced spin state conversions (LIESST) at 20 K: LS HS on site A with = 514.5 nm, and HS LS on site B with = 820 nm. The relaxation processes subsequent to the HS LS conversion on site B reveal a light-induced HSLS bistability for the complexes on site B at 70 K. The bistability as well as the absence of a thermal spin transition on site B are attributed to a thermal hysteresis for the…
The Neutrophil Secretome as a Crucial Link between Inflammation and Thrombosis
2021
Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of death. Blood–cell interactions and endothelial dysfunction are fundamental in thrombus formation, and so further knowledge of the pathways involved in such cellular crosstalk could lead to new therapeutical approaches. Neutrophils are secretory cells that release well-known soluble inflammatory signaling mediators and other complex cellular structures whose role is not fully understood. Studies have reported that neutrophil extracellular vesicles (EVs) and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) contribute to thrombosis. The objective of this review is to study the role of EVs and NETs as key factors in the transition from inflammation to thrombo…
The deformation tensor ∊ of the spin transition in the mixed crystal [Fe0.46Zn0.54(ptz)6](BF4)2
2004
The conversion of the spin state of complexes exhibiting thermal spin crossover from the1A1low-spin (LS) state to the5T2high-spin (HS) state is accompanied by a deformation of the lattice due to the larger bond lengths in the HS state as compared with the LS state. In a previous work [Kuszet al.(2000).J. Appl. Cryst.33, 201–205], it has been shown that the deformation of the lattice, corrected for its temperature dependence, can be described by an almost temperature-independent tensor ∊ multiplied by the fraction of molecules in the HS state, γHS. Here the dependence of ∊ in a mixed single crystal of [Fe0.46Zn0.54(ptz)6](BF4)2(ptz = propyltetrazole) with a transition temperature near 110 K …
Transgenerationale Effekte belastender Kindheitserlebnisse auf die Borderline-Symptomatik von Jugendlichen
2014
