On Stability of a Concentrated Fiber Suspension Flow

2014

Linear stability analysis of a fiber suspension flow in a channel domain is performed using a modified Folgar-Tucker equation. Two kinds of potential instability are identified: one is associated with overcritical Reynolds number and another is associated with certain perturbations in fiber orientation field and is present for any Reynolds numbers. The second type of instability leads to initially growing transient perturbations in the microstructure. It is shown that both types of instability lead to instability of the bulk velocity field. As for the perturbed Orr-Sommerfeld eigenvalues, the presence of fibers increases the stability region; the stability region increases with growing C i …

Predictive control of networked systems with communication delays

2012

This paper studies the problem of predictive output feedback control for networked control systems with random communication delays. A networked predictive control scheme is employed to compensate for random communication delays, which mainly consists of the control prediction generator and network delay compensator. Furthermore, a new strategy of designing the time-varying predictive controller with mixed random delays for networked systems is proposed. Then the system can be formulated as a Markovian jump system. New techniques are presented to deal with the distributed delay in the discrete-time domain. Based on analysis of closed-loop networked predictive control systems, the designed p…

Self-regulation mechanism of an ecosystem in a non-Gaussian fluctuation regime

1996

We study a dynamical model for an ecological network of many interacting species. We consider a Malthus-Verhulst type of self-regulation mechanism. In the framework of the mean field theory we study the nonlinear relaxation in three different cases: (a) towards the equilibrium state, (b) towards the absorbing barrier, (c) at the critical point. We obtain asymptotic behavior in all different cases for the time average of the process. The dynamical behavior of the system, in the limit of infinitely many interacting species, is investigated in the stability and instability conditions and theoretical results are compared with numerical simulations. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical So…

О проблеме Гарднера для систем управления фазовой автоподстройкой частоты

2019

This report shows the possibilities of solving the Gardner problem of determining the lock-in range for multidimensional phase-locked loops systems. The development of analogs of classical stability criteria for the cylindrical phase space made it possible to obtain analytical estimates of the lock-in range for third-order system. peerReviewed

Coexistence of hidden attractors and multistability in counterexamples to the Kalman conjecture

2019

The Aizerman and Kalman conjectures played an important role in the theory of global stability for control systems and set two directions for its further development – the search and formulation of sufficient stability conditions, as well as the construction of counterexamples for these conjectures. From the computational perspective the latter problem is nontrivial, since the oscillations in counterexamples are hidden, i.e. their basin of attraction does not intersect with a small neighborhood of an equilibrium. Numerical calculation of initial data of such oscillations for their visualization is a challenging problem. Up to now all known counterexamples to the Kalman conjecture were const…

Absolute quantification of noncoding RNA by microscale thermophoresis

2019

Abstract Accurate quantification of the copy numbers of noncoding RNA has recently emerged as an urgent problem, with impact on fields such as RNA modification research, tissue differentiation, and others. Herein, we present a hybridization‐based approach that uses microscale thermophoresis (MST) as a very fast and highly precise readout to quantify, for example, single tRNA species with a turnaround time of about one hour. We developed MST to quantify the effect of tRNA toxins and of heat stress and RNA modification on single tRNA species. A comparative analysis also revealed significant differences to RNA‐Seq‐based quantification approaches, strongly suggesting a bias due to tRNA modifica…

IMEX schemes for pricing options under jump–diffusion models

2014

We propose families of IMEX time discretization schemes for the partial integro-differential equation derived for the pricing of options under a jump-diffusion process. The schemes include the families of IMEX-midpoint, IMEX-CNAB and IMEX-BDF2 schemes. Each family is defined by a convex combination parameter [email protected]?[0,1], which divides the zeroth-order term due to the jumps between the implicit and explicit parts in the time discretization. These IMEX schemes lead to tridiagonal systems, which can be solved extremely efficiently. The schemes are studied through Fourier stability analysis and numerical experiments. It is found that, under suitable assumptions and time step restric…

Technical determinants of competitive rifle shooting performance

2018

The purpose of this thesis was to identify technical determinants of elite level air rifle and biathlon standing shooting performance and investigate how these technical determinants are affected by training, competition situation, or intense exercise. Forty international and national level air rifle shooters and 17 biathletes participated in the studies. In air rifle shooting, shooting performance, aiming point trajectory, and postural balance were measured from each shot in a simulated competition series in the training situation and in the actual competition situation. The shooters’ competition results were collected from each measured season. In biathlon, the same shooting technical var…

Survey of Research for Performance Measurement of Mobile Manipulators

2016

International audience; This survey provides the basis for developing research in the area of mobile manipulator performance measurement, an area that has relatively few research articles when compared to other mobile manipulator research areas. The survey provides a literature review of mobile manipulator research with examples of experimental applications. The survey also provides an extensive list of planning and control references as this has been the major research focus for mobile manipulators which factors into performance measurement of the system. The survey then reviews performance metrics considered for mobile robots, robot arms, and mobile manipulators and the systems that measu…
