In the contemporary debate about the nature of persistence, stage theory is the view that ordinary objects (artefacts, animals, persons, etc.) are instantaneous and"persist" by being suitably related to other instantaneous objects (see T. Sider 1996, 2001 and K. Hawley 2001, both defenders of the view). In this paper I focus on the issue of what stage theorists should say about the semantics of ordinary proper names, like"Socrates" or"London". This paper reports the follow-up at age 15 of a group of children who were diagnosed at age 5 as having delayed motor development. The group of children who were clumsy and the control group still differed in motor performance 10 years later: 46% of the members of the early motor delay group were classified as different from the control group on motor and perceptual tasks. The remainder made up an intermediate group that could not be clearly distinguished from the other groups. En 1996-1997, nous avons etudie les stages cystacanthes de trois especes de Corynosoma (Acanthocephala), C. strumosum et C. semerme, ainsi qu'une nouvelle espece C. magdaleni parasite du chabot a quatre cornes (Myoxocephalus quadricornis) dans le golfe de Bothnie. In this paper, the flow-process of a slit weir was analyzed on the basis of a theorem of dimensional analysis and incomplete self-similarity theory. The theoretically deduced stage-discharge formula then was calibrated using experimental data obtained for a ratio between the weir and the channel width, ranging from 0.05 to 0.25. The deduced stage-discharge relationship allowed measuring discharge values characterized by errors that, for 98% of the measured values, were less than or equal to +/- 5%.
