Dyslipidemias may account for the excess of cardiovascular mortality in end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Lipoprotein studies in ESRD patients are usually relative to prehemodialysis samples even if significative changes may occur after dialysis. Ontogeny of Heterocypris bosniaca (Ostracoda: Cyprididae): description of postembryonic instars and rediscovery of the neglected A-9 stage

Despite being the most common and widespread family of Ostracoda in fresh water, the Cyprididae are still poorly known with respect to species ontogeny. The full series of eight juvenile instars has been described in detail for just five of the approximately 1000 living species, and only in one case did this include the earliest A-9 stage. Regional inequality and economic development in Spain, 1860–2010

Abstract Fifty years ago Jeffrey G. Williamson suggested that during the process of economic development regional income differences trace out an inverted U-shaped pattern. Since then several studies have tested this hypothesis. Yet, most of these only explore particular stages of development. This study, however, investigates the long-term evolution of regional income inequality. Using a novel dataset spanning 150 years, we describe per-capita GDP disparities across Spanish provinces (NUTS3) from 1860 to 2010. A 350,000-year climatic record from the loess sequence of Achenheim, Alsace, France

Up to now the best Quaternary climatic sequences come from oceanic isotope studies, but terrestrial sequences are also well known, usually for pollen or ice core data. A new sequence providing climatic information for the last 500,000 years has been studied in the loess series of Achenheim (Alsace), using the mollusc record in relation to other stratigraphical data. Mollusc assemblages are analysed using a multivariate method. The correspondence analysis used here allows us to explain, in ecological terms, the general variability of the Achenheim set. Automated microorganisms activity detection on the early growth stage using artificial neural networks

The paper proposes an approach of a novel non-contact optical technique for early evaluation of microbial activity. Noncontact evaluation will exploit laser speckle contrast imaging technique in combination with artificial neural network (ANN) based image processing. Microbial activity evaluation process will comprise acquisition of time variable laser speckle patterns in given sample, ANN based image processing and visualization of obtained results. Here, we provide a new astrochronology of the Hauterivian Stage anchored on (1) recent biostratigraphically well-constrained published radio-isotopic dates, and (2) a previously published astrochronology of the Valanginian Stage. Differential Leakage Factor in Electrical Machines Equipped with Asymmetrical Multiphase Windings: a General Investigation

This paper presents an investigation in terms of degree of unbalance and leakage factor of electrical machines equipped with multiphase windings. The analysis has been carried out through 4800 combinations between slots/poles/phases/layers, analyzing the variability of the leakage factor for each condition and determining the optimal region for its minimization. The obtained results demonstrate that the leakage factor could be considerably reduced with the adoption of slightly asymmetrical windings, which represent a favorable option during the early design stage of electrical machines.
