Teacher Educators’ and Teacher Trainees’ Perspective on Teacher Training for Sustainable Development

2020

Abstract In accordance with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), countries across the globe are striving to ensure equitable access to inclusive, quality and lifelong educational opportunities for all children, youth and adults by 2030. Teacher education has been identified as one of the key factors in the achievement of the SDG 4 targets. As part of the effort to ensure sustainable teacher education for the achievement of SDG 4 in Ghana, this study applied the four key concepts in the SDG 4: quality, equity, inclusion and lifelong learning, to determine the progress with regards to SDG 4 in the context of teacher education in Ghana. The specific objectives of this study were to determin…

Improving soil and water conservation and ecosystem services by sustainable soil management practices: From a global to an Italian soil partnership

2020

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) identify the need to restore degraded soils in order to improve productivity and the provision of ecosystem services. The aim is to support food production, store and supply clean water, conserve biodiversity, sequester carbon, and improve soil resilience in a context of climate change. Within this framework, in order to achieve the SDGs and to correct land management in the long-term, soil management is considered mandatory. The reduction of land degradation should be based on various sustainable soil management practices that improve and maintain soil organic matter levels, increase water infiltration, and improve soil water management. This tec…

La sostenibilità delle destinazioni turistiche: la misurazione per indicatori

2013

Tourism often has had (and has) detrimental outcomes on destinations but the need and the rele-vance of a sustainable development of tourism was only recently recognised. Sustainable tour-ism is a quite recent concept, derived by the notion of sustainable development; it is usually re-lated to environmental issues and particularly to natural resources waste. Wider definitions are now emerging in the scientific community including, usually, social and economic dimensions together with the environmental one. Although, the intrinsic multidimensional nature of sustain-ability and the high number of stakeholders to be involved in its evaluation (e.g. policy makers, administrators, local resident…

Learning English informally through authentic literacy practices : a case study of Finnish 8th grade students

2010

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää, miten hyödyllisinä englannin oppimisen kannalta kahdeksasluokkalaiset nuoret kokevat erilaiset tekstikäytännöt koulun ulkopuolella arkitodellisuudessaan. Tutkimuksessa etsitään vastauksia seuraaviin kysymyksiin: 1) Mitkä koulun ulkopuoliset tekstikäytännöt tukevat englannin oppimista? 2) Millaisia yhtäläisyyksiä ja eroja oppilaiden…

Innowacje jako determinanta zrównoważonego rozwoju transportu w miastach

2014

We wnioskach stwierdzono, ż…

Actual and Potential Pedagogical Use of Tablets in Schools

2013

This study reviews the potential of tablet technology for teaching and learning. In autumn 2012, we conducted a focused survey comprising quantitative and qualitative questions with Finnish teachers (N = 171, from 54 schools). We focused on perceived pedagogical opportunities and the actualized pedagogical potential of tablets at schools. The survey results indicate that the actual usefulness of tablets in schools was significantly less than what teachers perceived as the pedagogical potential. However, the results demonstrate the positive impact these devices are having on teaching and learning, as well as prompting changes in pedagogical perspectives. Teachers stated that tablets can dive…

A new application for nickel foam in alkaline fuel cells

2009

The use of nickel foam as an electrode substrate in alkaline fuel cells (AFCs) has been investigated for bi-polar cells incorporating an electrically conducting gas diffusion layer. This contribution focuses on the cathode, and draws comparisons between nickel foam and nickel mesh substrates. One of the principal electrocatalysts for the cathodic reduction of oxygen is silver, so an improvement in electrochemical performance was obtained by electroplating the nickel foam with silver. The electrodeposition process was optimised to maximise electrochemical performance with a minimum of silver deposited. Nickel foam, which is less expensive than the usual nickel mesh, appears to be a good subs…

Ammonium adsorption, desorption and recovery by acid and alkaline treated zeolite

2021

In this study, the suitability of zeolite as a possible medium for ammonium adsorption, desorption and recovery from wastewater was investigated. Specifically, batch adsorption and desorption studies with solutions enriched in NH$_4^+$ were conducted employing zeolite to evaluate how the chemical treatment and contact time affect adsorption and desorption. Several experimental tests were carried out considering both untreated and treated zeolite. Untreated and HCl-Na treated zeolite adsorbed up to 11.8 mg NH$_4^+$ g$^{-1}$ and showed the highest efficiency in recovering NH$_4^+$ from aqueous solution. Regardless of pre-treatment, treatments with NaCl resulted in higher and faster adsorption…
