Introduction: Bracket debonding from the tooth surface is a common problem in fixed orthodontics. The aims of the present study were to assess the bond strength and failure sites in two ways of bonding technique, with metallic and ceramic brackets. Immunohistochemical Staining of Retrobulbar Adipose Tissue in Graves' Ophthalmopathy

An increase of retrobulbar adipose tissue has been shown by imaging techniques in patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO). Immunohistochemical staining was applied to investigate the involvement of different retrobulbar (especially adipose) tissue components in the autoimmune process of the disease. Cryostat sections from retrobulbar tissues of 15 GO patients and 11 controls were analyzed with a battery of monoclonal antibodies against CD2, CD4, CD8, CD11a, CD19/22, CD25, CD54, CD57, CD68, C3b, HLA-A, B, C, and HLA-DR. Amyloidoma of the gasserian ganglion as a cause of symptomatic neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve: report of three cases.

Three cases of symptomatic neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve due to an amyloidoma in the gasserian ganglion are described. The correct diagnosis was not made prior to histological examination of the surgical biopsy specimens. Medical history and clinical observation led to the diagnosis of a malignant process of the nasal cavities in the first patient; of an inflammatory dental focus in the second patient; and of multiple sclerosis in the third patient. CT findings were normal in cases 1 and 2; in case 3, a schwannoma was suspected from the CT appearances. Immunohistochemical localization of filaggrin in benign, premalignant and malignant cervical tissue.

Epithelial distribution of filaggrin, a histidine-rich protein related to squamous terminal differentiation, was investigated in 87 cervical biopsies using an avidin-biotin-peroxidase technique with a monoclonal anti-human filaggrin antibody (AKH1). Normal squamous cervical epithelium exhibited a positive homogeneous immunoperoxidase stain in the upper parabasal, intermediate and superficial cell layers. Anti-vimentin staining in muscle pathology

The intermediate filaments of immature muscle fibres contain desmin and vimentin; vimentin is lacking in mature fibres. Regenerating fibres react with anti-vimentin antibodies and more intensely for desmin than mature fibres. The aim of the present study was to evaluate anti-vimentin staining for muscle pathology. Anti-vimentin-reactive fibres were found in 40 of 89 biopsies assessed.
