Wood formation in pedunculate oak and its relation with climatic factors in Latvia

2013

The nexus between big data and sustainability: an analysis of current trends and developments

2021

[EN] With the development of technological innovations, Big Data is transforming the socioeconomic world, impacting almost every organization and person. The transformations associated with the development of Big Data have important consequences for the sustainability of organizations, regions, and the society as a whole, and as such, they have been specifically addressed by the academic literature focusing on sustainability. Despite its importance, and perhaps because of its rapid emergence, there is a lack of studies dealing with the analysis of this body of literature and its trends. The current research attempts to fill this gap. The study develops a bibliometric and visualization analy…

Stationary, Second Use Battery Energy Storage Systems and Their Applications: A Research Review

2021

The global demand for electricity is rising due to the increased electrification of multiple sectors of economic activity and an increased focus on sustainable consumption. Simultaneously, the share of cleaner electricity generated by transient, renewable sources such as wind and solar energy is increasing. This has made additional buffer capacities for electrical grids necessary. Battery energy storage systems have been investigated as storage solutions due to their responsiveness, efficiency, and scalability. Storage systems based on the second use of discarded electric vehicle batteries have been identified as cost-efficient and sustainable alternatives to first use battery storage syste…

When Investment in Basic Skills Gives Negative Returns

2017

In recent years, the Norwegian government has invested heavily in improving basic skills in the adult population. Initiatives have included legislation, the introduction of work-based adult education programs, and reforms in schooling. In light of this investment, we explore trends in adult literacy and numeracy, by comparing data from two international surveys of adult skills, conducted in 2003 and 2012. Paradoxically, the proportion of low-performing adults appears to have increased, most significantly in the 16- to 24-year age group and in the foreign-born population. The profile of the lowest performing group has changed in the intervening years. These findings suggest that adult educa…

Situational factors shape moral judgements in the trolley dilemma in Eastern, Southern and Western countries in a culturally diverse sample

2022

The study of moral judgements often centres on moral dilemmas in which options consistent with deontological perspectives (that is, emphasizing rules, individual rights and duties) are in conflict with options consistent with utilitarian judgements (that is, following the greater good based on consequences). Greene et al. (2009) showed that psychological and situational factors (for example, the intent of the agent or the presence of physical contact between the agent and the victim) can play an important role in moral dilemma judgements (for example, the trolley problem). Our knowledge is limited concerning both the universality of these effects outside the United States and the impact of …

Economic and Life Cycle Analysis of Passive and Active Monitoring of Ozone for Forest Protection

2021

At forest sites, phytotoxic tropospheric ozone (O3) can be monitored with continuously operating, active monitors (AM) or passive, cumulative samplers (PM). For the first time, we present evidence that the sustainability of active monitoring is better than that of passive sensors, as the environmental, economic, and social costs are usually lower in the former than in the latter. By using data collected in the field, environmental, social, and economic costs were analyzed. The study considered monitoring sites at three distances from a control station in Italy (30, 400, and 750 km), two forest types (deciduous and Mediterranean evergreen), and three time windows (5, 10, and 20 years of moni…

Quo vadis, kirjoittamisen opetus?

2018

2013

Pirttimäki, H. & Salmio, P. 2013. Yläkoulun liikunnanopettajien kokemuksia tunne- ja vuorovaikutustaitojen opettamisesta. Pro gradu –tutkielma. Opettajankoulutuslaitos, kasvatustiede ja liikuntakasvatuksen laitos, liikuntapedagogiikka. Jyväskylän yliopisto, 83s. Pro gradu -tutkielmamme tarkoituksena oli selvittää, minkälaisia kokemuksia yläkoulun liikunnanopettajilla on tunne- ja vuorovaikutustaitojen opettamisesta liikuntatunnilla, sekä miten he niitä käytännössä opettavat. Lisäksi halusimme tietää, miten eri tekijät vaikuttavat tunne- ja vuorovaikutustaitojen opetukseen sekä miten nämä taidot näkyvät liikunnanopetuksen arvioinnissa. Tutkimuksemme oli luonteeltaan laadullinen ja sen tietee…

Toimivaa vuorovaikutusta oppimassa : autoetnografinen tutkimus tunne- ja vuorovaikutustaitojen oppimisprosessista

2012

TIIVISTELMÄ Mäkinen, Tommi. 2012. Toimivaa vuorovaikutusta oppimassa -autoetnografinen tutkimus tunne- ja vuorovaikutustaitojen oppimisprosessista. Liikuntatieteiden laitos.
